Assen was a special race on many levels and mostly due to Aleix Espargaro who had put on a show like no other. Multiple people were of the opinion that Aleix rode the best race of his career till now. And rightly so because the way he turned his misfortunes around astonished everyone.
A few laps into the Dutch GP, Fabio Quartararo thought he had an opening to overtake Aleix Espargaro down the inside and went for the move which turned into a failed effort as both the riders collided. Fortunately Espargaro had taken avoiding action but had to go wide and continued with the race. The Aprilia rider had lost a big amount of time but was keen on getting the best result and not let anything affect him.
Espargaro said that he even thought his race was lost, but he gave it all when he realised that he could gain valuable points in the championship over his rival whom he collided with.

“It was brutal” : Aleix Espargaro on his collision with Fabio Quartararo
“It was brutal. When Fabio collided with me I thought that everything was lost, but when I saw him on the ground I thought: he doesn’t add a single point, and I said to myself: ‘Aleix, everything you add are points that you recover’. I get goosebumps watching the last overtake.’
After the contact between the Yamaha and Aprilia riders, what followed through was a brilliant demonstration of pace shown by the Aprilia rider who was down to 15th place after the contact yet he was relentless and went on a charge plucking out riders one by one until the last few laps where he was sitting comfortably in 6th place. Aleix Espargaro then proceeded to make a double overtake on the last corner of the last lap in Assen to finish a brilliant 4th in the race showing everyone what he was capable of.
