“When we came here last year, I won” : Fabio Quartararo wants to repeat winning feat in Portimao

Fabio Quartararo
Yamaha prodigy Fabio Quartararo has proven his worth in the premier class of motorcycle racing by clinching the 2021 MotoGP World Championship title last year. But, his hunger for race wins and a potential title win is still going strong. With a brilliant P7 position in the last MotoGP at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, it is safe to say that Quartararo’s confidence in himself and his conviction that he can win the World Championship for a second time–have increased manifold.
Currently, Fabio ‘El Diablo’ Quartararo is in the fifth position in the Championship standings, behind strongs rivals like Alex Rins and Joan Mir. He is separated from Gresini/Ducati talent Enea Bastianini, who is currently leading the Championship charts, by a mere 17 points. If Quartararo performs well and keeps the learning curve that he started in Austin steady, then he will soon be fighting Bastianini for a second chance at winning the World Championship.
With a second Championship title at stake, Fabio Quartararo is not ready to let anything up to chance. The French is the first from his country to win the Championship in MotoGP and he wishes to add another feather to his cap by winning the title a second time. With the European leg of MotoGP round the corner, Quartararo knows he has to perform well in order to match Bastianini’s points.
“I want to fight for the podium” : Fabio Quartararo’s target seems crystal clear for the race weekend at Portimao

As the 23-year-old reigning World Champion is having a go at his fifth MotoGP race of the new 2022 season, Fabio Quartararo wants to make sure his target is set. He has performed well in the last race in Austin, having scored nine points with a P7 finish, but he knows he has to perform a lot better to retain his Championship title for another year. In 2022, while Quartararo has managed to get a few top-10 positions, he is yet to attain a podium finish.
In a recent interview, the defending MotoGP World Champion commented on his performance in the Austin race by saying, “I enjoyed the race in Austin because I did my best. There were some nice battles on track, and I learned a lot. I was satisfied with my performance.”
He also said, “But in Portimao I want to fight for the podium. When we came here in April last year, I won. That race was really amazing, and I want to ride like that again. The goal is always to be first and do our best, so that‘s what we will continue to do.”
