Who is the Youngest MotoGP champion?
MotoGP
To be the youngest individual to achieve something in MotoGP’s premiere class is very hard but can be done. Riders start training at a very young age to gain valuable experience and start as early as they can to chase results and work their way up to the topmost class of MotoGP and the sooner that they get there, the better will be their longevity in the sport.
Take F1’s Max Verstappen for example. With his great results in karting and lower formulas, he got the opportunity to test for Torro Ross when her was barely a 17 year old . the following year, he got promoted to the main Redbull team when he was 18 years of age and managed to win a Grand Prix on his debut race with the team. That is the power of young talent in motorsport. They are fearless and always ready to fully send it and push the limits of their machinery. Such is the case in MotoGP who’s youngest world champion was just 20 years old when he won the title. It is pretty obvious who the rider is.
It’s none other than Repsol Honda MotoGP rider Marc Marquez
Spanish rider Marc Marquez became the youngest MotoGP world champion after finishing in third place in the final race of the season being held in Valencia. The 20 year old rider needed to finish 4th in order to win the championship. Being 20 years and 266 days old, the Honda rider beat the previous record set by American Freddie Spencer who won the 500cc title in 1983 when he was 21 years, 258 days old. Since then, Marc Marquez went on to win 5 more titles in the span of 6 years where the only season that he did not win the championship was 2015.
Having to sit out of the 2022 MotoGP season due to a 4th operation on his right arm, Marc Marquez is on his path towards full recovery and will be back to find his lost form and compete for many more titles soon.
