Yamaha shows “open mindedness” in MotoGP, all thanks to Ex-Formula One engine chief tie up in the 2022 season
Fabio Quartararo
Yamaha MotoGP rider and current championship leader Fabio Quartararo has criticised the Japanese team for their lack of progress made through the winter over it’s 2022 charger with the main issue being lack of top speed compared to other manufacturers. This has put them at a major disadvantage yet the reigning world champion has been resilient and is sitting on the top of the championship standings table with multiple wins already to his name.
To address the top speed situation, Yamaha brought in ex-Ferrari and Toyota Formula 1 engine chief Luca Marmorini for a consultation role on the team. Meregalli thinks that this shows the team’s willingness to explore new options and find more ways for attaining solutions. He is also expecting the results of the efforts undertaken by the team to start showing by the end of the year.

“But I am very happy, I’m very confident” : Yamaha Boss Massimo Meregalli
“The hopes are not only about this new synergy, but the way that also in Japan they changed their mind,” Meregalli said.
“They always worked internally, but now they are starting to be more open-minded and focused on improving the bike and the results.
“For sure, I’m expecting to see some results from this new collaboration probably at the end of the season, because they are already as you can imagine working on next year’s bike and engine. But I am very happy, I’m very confident.”
Luca Marmorini started working in Formula One with Ferrarii and was with the team from 1990 till 1999 after which he joined Toyota ahead of their Formula One debut. When Toyota departed from Formula One, Luca joined Ferrari in 2009 and was working with the team till 2014. He has been working with the Yamaha factory team since February.
