MotoGP season of 2022 will have new set of sporting regulations regarding race results in an event of a red flag
Red Flag in MotoGP
After examining the last set of rules regarding an event where a red flag is deployed, MotoGP has decided to make substantial changes to the rule as it looks ready of the upcoming season and this had to happen sooner rather than later.
The changes have been made after an official announcement from the Grand Prix Commission. The announcement clarified the change that has been made. Now, in an event of a red flag during the race, the result will be taken keeping in the mind the grid position of the leader as to when he crossed the start finish line before the red flag came into action.
The previous rule was a little vague prima facie and hence needed a little tweak. The last rule included that it made it mandatory for every rider to cross the line if there were to be any official race classification, which meant that the result was taken from an entire lap before which has been struck off by the Grand Prix Commission.
MotoGP and the Grand Prix have made the law crystal clear in an event of a red flagged race
The Grand Prix Commission stated: “Previously, if a race was red flagged and a final result declared, the result was taken from the lap on which all riders had last crossed the finish line.”
“If a rider or several riders were half a lap or more behind the race leader, this caused the race classification to be taken from the previous lap, even when the race leader and the majority of the field had completed the next lap. In these cases, any position changes or crashes on the race leader’s final lap were rendered moot.”
“This system previously applied to races that were red flagged after the race leader had taken the chequered flag, and will now apply to all red flagged races for which a final result is declared.”As reported by crash.net.
This will make it fair for all the riders in case of a red flagged being deployed. We wouldn’t want that to happen in normal course as it’s a disappoint for the fans and the riders but in case that happens we can expect a fair race classification with a transparent ruling.
