Yamaha on the hunt for ‘revenge’ after Franco Morbidelli’s disappointing performance in the previous season
Franco Morbidelli
Yamaha team boss Massimo Meregalli has made his expectations clear from their prodigy Franco Morbidelli as they look to inflict damage on their competitors and get their revenge. Franco Morbidelli has shown that outburst of excellence on a few occasions but nothing substantial to make him reach the top.
The Factory Yamaha rider has got everything in the bag to dominate at the very top and be the best. The rider is a three time grand prix winner. That does mean he can do it but has struggled for pace quite a lot. The rider had a torrid end to the season as he scored mere seven points from the last five races.
This is nowhere close to the performance that we expect from the youngster who replaced Maverick Vinales after being promoted to the Factory Yamaha squad. The season was awful after he could just secure one podium in the whole year as the burden of expectations was too much to handle for the rider.
The rider hasn’t had it easy with injuries too. He was carried out from the Dutch TT all the way to September’s San Marino Grand Prix. This was due to that horrific knee injury that was inflicted on him during the crash just when he was promoted to the Factory Yamaha squad.
Yamaha attempts to bounce back and Franco Morbidelli’s pre season might be the perfect launch pad
But the rider has made a comeback with an impressive pre season which has reignited Yamaha’s hopes.
Massimo Meregalli said, “What I’m expecting from Franco is a kind of revenge after last season, because he had too many things [go wrong].”
“He used the last races to get used to the new crew, the new factory bike.”
“But I’m really curious to see Franco in a good shape, riding the bike as he was used to doing before he got injured.”
“He’s used to riding the bike, we know that he matches very well to our M1.” As reported by motorsport.
Last season might not have been the best for Franco Morbidelli but this could be the season when he avenges last year’s disappointment, wins back the trust of his owner and also repay the backing that they have shown by winning some races. The pre season is the perfect set up for him to launch from there.
