Tottenham Hotspur faced Shkendija in their Europa League qualifying round last night. Spurs won the game 3-1, but there was an unusual complaint from the Portuguese manager.

What did he ask?

Spurs started the scoring early with a Lamela goal, but the hosts equalised quickly. With goals from Son and Kane, Spurs secured the win and will continue their Europa League campaign.

Mourinho said the issue was brought to him by one of the goalkeepers, who thought something was off. “Before the game was a funny situation because my goalkeeper told me the goal was small. I went to see and it was small. The goalkeepers spend all their time in them so we know,” he said.

“I felt immediately something was wrong and we got the UEFA delegate to come in and it was 5cm too small. We asked for goals of the right dimensions,” he remarked.

Mourinho also admitted, “We didn’t play magnificently but we did the job.” “We started very strongly and the thought was that we would kill the game but we didn’t. They gave us a difficult match and the fear we felt after the equaliser was fundamental to the team’s reaction and then it was difficult for them to contain our attacking waves.”

Spurs will now face Newcastle on Sunday as part of their Premier League campaign and comes just four days before another Europa League round. They will face Maccabi Haifa at their Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Europa League qualifying round.
