Mane scoring the 3rd goal for Liverpool

Mourinho faulted his defenders for making too many mistakes after their loss against Liverpool. Liverpool thumped Tottenham 3-1 at the Spurs Stadium.

Goals from Firmino, Arnold meant Liverpool had a 2 goal advantage over their rivals. Pierre Hojberg scored the solitary goal and gave Tottenham a glimmer of hope at 2-1. Mane scored the 3rd goal for Liverpool putting the tie to bed dashing hopes of any chance of a Spurs’ comeback.

Jose Mourinho has backed Rodon despite his faults

Joe Rodon was to blame for 2 of Liverpool’s goals

Joe Rodon was out of position for Liverpool’s goal. Firmino slotted home from close range as both Dier and Lloris failed to clear the ball in time. Lloris will also want to forget his role for Arnold’s goal which made it 2-0 for the visitors.

Rodon was the man to blame for Tottenham’s 3rd goal as he made a mess of a clearance. Mane swooped behind him and scored to restore the 2 goal advantage for Liverpool.

Mourinho was critical of defenders in his post-match press conference. Excerpts from his press-conference:

‘It’s very hard to resist so many defensive individual mistakes – unless you score four goals against Liverpool.’

‘Every time we came back the next mistake was coming.

At half-time we lost Harry Kane and in the first minute of the second half another mistake, another goal. It was a good reaction to make it 2-1. The team were fighting but then one more mistake and it’s 3-1. It’s very difficult to fight against so many mistakes.

‘Some of the guys are very disappointed because some had a very good performance but we were punished by individual mistakes.

‘Nothing new to learn, at the highest level you make individual mistakes normally you’re punished and we were punished by individual mistakes so it’s nothing new.’

The defeat has meant Tottenham remained 6th in the table, 4 points off the top-4 spot. Tottenham face Brighton next in the Premier league.
