The UFC featherweight division is filled with talented fighters. As such, each contender eagerly awaits for the title opportunity. Recently, at the main event of Noche UFC, Diego Lopes finished Jean Silva with a brutal elbow in the second-round. Following that, the title race has become more exciting, with Movsar Evloev standing confidently at the forefront, determined for a title shot.
Movsar Evloev has chased the elusive UFC featherweight title shot for years now, but frustratingly, his opportunity has yet to arrive. The Russian currently holds the #1 spot in the divisional rankings, proudly maintaining an impressive undefeated streak against elite competition. After Lopes secured a dominant victory, Evloev quickly took to social media, declaring himself the only truly deserving contender.
I beat Diego Lopes, Arnold Allen and Aljamain Sterling very easy. Nobody deserve anything and if any of them want to fight me again, I have no problem.

Movsar Evloev was present at UFC 314, watching closely when Lopes fought Alexander Volkanovski, only to lose the golden opportunity. The Russian featherweight felt disappointed with the UFC for overlooking his case, choosing to prioritize Yair Rodriguez as a potential next challenger.

Although Volkanovski has openly expressed interest in competing multiple times yearly, no clear updates exist regarding his upcoming fight schedule. Evloev has previously fought and convincingly defeated Lopes, and in his most recent bout, he faced Aljamain Sterling in a three round fight.
The Russian emerged victorious against the former bantamweight champion, winning by unanimous decision and extending his undefeated professional record further. According to Movsar Evloev, most of the featherweight roster was afraid to fight him, which prevented him from staying consistently active.
Evloev isn’t famous for flashy knockouts, but his wrestling brilliance consistently allows him to suffocate opponents for multiple rounds. Volkanovski, on the other hand, is a truly well-rounded champion who has battled elite wrestlers like Islam Makhachev and held strong. This potential clash carries massive intrigue, but the surrounding drama regarding the next featherweight title shot is incredibly palpable.
Other top featherweight fighters to consider apart from Movsar Evloev
Following the thrilling fight at Noche UFC, Lerone Murphy called out Alexander Volkanovski as the next opponent for his title defense. Currently ranked #4 in the division, Murphy defeated former Bellator standout Aaron Pico with a spectacular knockout finish at UFC 319. Although the Englishman remains undefeated, Aljamain Sterling quickly mocked his callout, firmly reminding everyone that he was next in line.

Sterling enjoyed a great yet brief run as bantamweight champion, where he impressively defended his UFC title belt three times. After moving up, he currently holds two wins and one loss in the stacked and competitive UFC featherweight division. The former champion has even expressed readiness to prove himself against top contenders like Diego Lopes, verbally accepting such challenges.
Great performance by Lopes. But respectfully, I believe I’m the best and I’m willing to prove it. I’m a former champ and will be a champ again before I retire.

Lopes has repeatedly proven why he stands among the best fighters in the featherweight division, showcasing incredible toughness. Although devastated after losing to Volkanovski, he displayed resilience, bouncing back strongly with a brilliant victory over Jean Silva. During the fight buildup, the Fighting Nerds member relied heavily on trash talk, but failed to mentally unsettle Lopes.
Inside the octagon, however, Lopes delivered a clinical masterclass, later flipping off Silva’s teammate in response to provocation. When asked about his next opponent, Lopes mentioned that he’s ready for anybody in order to earn his title shot again. It would be interesting to see whether the UFC puts him against Aljamain Sterling next.
