The ongoing 2025 Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) season garnered attention once again due to a run-out, this time in a match between the Kolhapur Tuskers and Raigad Royals. A viral video showed the Kolhapur franchise comically missing three close run-out chances to dismiss the batter.
Raigad Royals and Kolhapur Tigers faced each other in the eliminator of the 2025 MPL season, at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Batting first, Tuskers managed to post a first innings score of 164/7. They were looking at a below-par total as the batters struggled to find the boundary, until Anand Thenge hit a much-needed quick-fire six-ball 26. For Raigad, Nikhil Kadam returned with figures of 3/35 in his four-over spell.
In response, Raigad Royals comfortably chased down the target in 19.4 overs, finishing with 165/4 at the end of the night. Vicky Ostwal was named POTM for his knock of 74 runs off 54 deliveries, comprising 11 fours and a six. He was helped by fellow opening partner Siddhesh Veer, who scored 39 off 24 balls, and Niraj Joshi who chipped in with a 37-run knock, taking Raigad Royals over the line.
However, Kolhapur Tuskers could have changed the course of the match, had they managed to run-out Ostwal, midway through his innings. Ostwal was caught in an unfortunate mix-up with Siddhesh Veer during the chase. Off a delivery by Tuskers’ pacer Atman Pore, Ostwal hit the ball towards the off-side and took off for a quick single. The two Raigad openers were quick enough, as they completed the first run.
However, both Ostwal and Veer had fully set their eyes on the ball. As they went for the second run, the two batters therefore, completely ignored each other’s running lanes, and in a horrific moment, heavily collided with each other halfway through the pitch. Both batters fell to the ground, losing their bats, which presented an opportunity for the Kolhapur to inflict a run-out and possibly derail the Royals’ chase.
However, in the ensuing chaos, Kolhapur keeper Vishant More, after collecting the ball at the striker’s end, rather than hitting the stumps, surprisingly tossed it back to bowler Atman Pore. Pore fumbled, allowing Vicky Ostwal to recover and return to the crease.
Adding to the series of blunders, Kolhapur captain Rahul Tripathi then ran with the ball towards the striker’s end but completely missed the stumps as Veer scrambled back. The ball ultimately deflected for a boundary, gifting Raigad four extra runs.
Vicky Ostwal capitalized on this reprieve, scoring a match-winning runs. This chaotic MPL eliminator run-out contrasts sharply with an earlier incident this season, where Puneri Bappa wicket-keeper Suraj Shinde bizarrely hit both ends of the stumps during a run-out against Raigad Royals.
Eagle Nashik Titans Cruised to the Final of the 2025 MPL with a Qualifier 1 Victory Over Puneri Bappa
Last season’s Maharashtra Premier League finalists Eagle Nashik Titans made it through to the final this year, with a dominating eight-wicket victory over Puneri Bappa. The two teams faced each other in Qualifier 1 of the 2025 MPL play-offs, at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

Batting first, Puneri Bappa posted a total of just 153 runs on the board, losing eight wickets in their 20 overs. Rushikesh Sonawane scored a crucial 67-run knock off 52 balls for Bappa, hitting six fours and three sixes, ending as top-scorer for his side. Prashant Solanki claimed three wickets for Nashik Titans, while Mukesh Choudhary and Akshay Waikar scalped two wickets each.
Eagle Nashik Titans found themselves at a comfortable position from the start of the second innings, thanks to a 68-run opening stand between Mandar Bhandari and Arshin Kulkarni. Titans chased down the 154-run target in just 17.2 overs, with Bhandari scoring a 58-run knock off 40 balls. Meanwhile, Sahil Parekh and Ranjeet Nikam contributed with 38 and 33 runs, respectively.
