MS Dhoni became the third player in the IPL to hit three sixes on his first three balls on 14th April, 2024. It occurred in the final over of the match when he hit Hardik Pandya for three sixes to achieve this feat.

MS Dhoni came into bat at number six after Hardik Pandya dismissed Daryl Mitchell. Pandya, who had conceded only 23 runs by then, looked in good touch. The first ball Dhoni faced was dispatched for a six over long-off.

Under pressure, Pandya bowled on a fuller length and Dhoni once again hit another six, this time over long-on. Then Pandya decided that he was going to bowl a yorker to Dhoni but instead bowled a full toss. The former Indian captain just flicked it over square for another six, hitting a hat-trick of maximums. He ended the over with a double, taking CSK to a total of 206.

Dhoni became the first Indian to hit three sixes on his first three balls. The first to do it was Sunil Narine, who hit Dan Christian for the three sixes in 2021. Nicholas Pooran then achieved the feat in 2023, smacking Abhishek Sharma for three sixes.

Chasing 206, MI started out well, with Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan stitching an opening partnership of 70 runs, before Kishan was dismissed. Matheesha Pathirana, Tushar Deshpande and Shardul Thakur choked out MI in the middle overs, rarely giving runs and picking up four wickets in the span of eight overs to win the game. Sharma scored a century, but also struggled to bat in the middle overs.
