IPL 2021: “Pitch is tacky for half an hour when match starts at 7:30” – MS Dhoni expresses dissatisfaction with match timings

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were unable to get the start they would have ideally wanted in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 as they fell by 7 wickets to Delhi Capitals (DC). Put in to bat, CSK’s batting performance was not bad by any stretch of the imagination. Although on the pitch, 200 would have been a good score, CSK did extremely well to recover from the early loss of their openers to get to 188.
Suresh Raina, Moeen Ali and Sam Curran were the architects of the score as they took risks when needed and ensured that the DC bowlers never wrestled control. In the second innings however, it was the Shikhar Dhawan – Prithvi Shaw show as the openers pummeled the CSK bowlers into submission. Both scored in excess of 70 and ensured that the chase was aced with 8 balls to spare.
MS Dhoni reacts on CSK’s loss to DC
CSK skipper MS Dhoni spoke about CSK’s loss and said, “A lot depended on dew, and that factor played on our mind from the start and that’s why we wanted to get as many runs as possible. The batters they did a good job to reach 188, because it was tacky until dew settled in 50 minutes later. We could have bowled slightly better, and if batters are hitting you over the fields, that’s fair enough.”
Speaking of the bowling, he said, “The execution of the bowlers was poor and there were boundary balls that they bowled, but the bowlers will have learned and they will apply that in the future games.”
He then expressed dissatisfaction with the match timings and said, “The opposition have half an hour in a 7:30 start, when the pitch is really tacky and the ball stops a bit, so we need to get 15-20 runs extra to be safe. If we get dew consistently, then 200 will be a must on a pitch like this.”
CSK face Punjab Kings next on the 16th of April.
