MS Dhoni’s last appearance was in the heartbreaking loss against New Zealand in the 2019’s World Cup. However, some do reckon that the legend does deserve a better farewell. Dhoni remains to be the only captain to lead his nation to lift the silverware in all 3 ICC Tournaments.

Rawalpindi Express, Shoaib Akhtar feels that Dhoni had the potential to carry himself until the 2021 T20 World Cup. He also felt that the entire nation owes him a grand farewell.

In conversation with YouTube Channel BolWasim, Akhtar stated that he respect’s the 39-year-old’s decision. Yet he surely obtains the abilities to play for long. Having featured in 350 ODIs, 90 Tests and 98 T20 Internationals, scoring a staggering 17266 runs across all formats. It does feel like age is just another number for MS.

To be precise about the same, Akhtar said, “I think he could have gone on to play the T20 World Cup. The way India supports its stars, the way they love them, and recognizes them, they would have played him in T20s. But it was his personal choice. ut again he has won everything, a person from Ranchi has rocked the whole of India, what else do you need. At the end of the day, the world should remember you. And a nation like India, they will never let you get forgotten.”

Quoting the example of Imran Khan, Akhtar suggested Dhoni could be called out of retirement. There is no doubt that the requests and appeals of the Prime Minister cannot be neglected. Akhtar said that Dhoni might make a comeback in the future on the request of the Prime Minister.

Akhtar said, “You never know, the Prime Minister may call him and request him to play the T20 World Cup. That is also possible. Imran Khan was asked by General Zia-ul-Haq not to leave cricket after 1987, and he played. You cannot say no to the Prime Minister.”

Having said all that, cricketing fanatics all over the world are obliged as the IPL returns from September 19th. Dhoni would be leading CSK for the 10th time this season.
