The IPL is one of the most exhausting tournaments a player can play. The players get tired thanks to the constant traveling, the heat they play in, and the extra media duties. Despite all this, MS Dhoni is alway fresh and ready for the IPL.
In an old video which was recently uploaded by Star Sports, MS Dhoni revealed his secret to staying fit. The former Indian captain spoke about how the IPL caused players to stay up late till 2-2:30 am, so he decided to sleep late in order to stay well-rested.
So instead of sleeping from 10 pm to 6 am or 11 pm to 7 am, I would sleep from 3 am to 11 am. So the minimum 8 hours sleep that I need, that I have to do for sure. I was always well-rested at night, never felt fatigued after the IPL got over.MS Dhoni to Star Sports
Dhoni has been a part of the IPL since 2008, where he was purchased for $1.5 million (₹ 12.5 crore) by Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Since then he has led CSK to five IPL titles, the highest by any captain alongside Rohit Sharma.
Harbhajan Singh claims MS Dhoni’s one-handed six in 2010 was not special
IPL 2010 saw CSK and Mumbai Indians (MI) face off against each other for the first time in an IPL final. The men in yellow scored 168 in the first innings, with Suresh Raina hitting 57 off 35 and MS Dhoni scoring 22 off 15. MI failed to chase it down, handing CSK their first IPL title.
During his innings, Dhoni hit a one-handed six off Kieron Pollard’s bowling. While Star Sports were talking about the match, a presenter kept on reminiscing about the shot, leading to Harbhajan Singh getting annoyed. He needed to remind the presenter that the six was nothing special.
Dhoni didn’t do anything extraordinary. Even Kieron Pollard hit sixes in that game. Hitting a six with one hand is not a big thing. It happens in a game.Harbhajan Singh on Star Sports
Singh was a part of the losing side that night, conceding 30 runs in his four-over spell. The veteran off-spinner finally won the IPL three seasons later with MI, winning it two more times in 2015 and 2017. He was released in 2018 and was purchased by CSK in that year’s auction. He won the IPL that season and then retired in 2020.
