On Tuesday, the city of New York witnessed another iconic baseball moment as Aaron Judge slammed a clutch 3-run home run at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. His home run was so good that it also received cheers around 9 miles away at Madison Square Garden during the NHL game between the New York Rangers and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

While the Yankees were trying to keep their season alive, the Rangers and the Penguins took part in their first games of the 2025-26 season. After a 4-month break, the NHL action was back on Tuesday.

The Rangers, who had a disappointing campaign last time out, hosted the Penguins. They had former Penguins coach Mike Sullivan in their dugout.

The two games were going on at the same time. In the NHL, the Penguins found themselves leading 1-0 against the home side with a goal from Justin Brazeau. With their team trailing in the game, the Rangers fans did not have much to cheer about.

Judge’s home run off Louis Varland came in the 3rd period of the Rangers-Penguins game. The Yankees captain connected on a 100 mph inside fastball and crushed it to left center field, where it hit the foul pole and caught the fans off their feet.

As the fans celebrated in New York, a video of Judge’s home run was shown on the giant screen of Madison Square Garden. The spectators inside the arena would erupt in cheers as well, as the Yankees tied the game at 6-6.

Even Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was seen having a look at the Jumbotron from the bench. After his team’s 3-0 win, the forward was asked whether he was pulling for the Blue Jays given his Canadian ties.

It’s pretty hard not to. It’s pretty much a whole country cheering for them. So, always cool to see them in the playoffs. And yeah, I heard the crowd, and then I heard the Jumbotron, and I figured something was coming from that game.

The Yankees then took the lead in the 5th inning through a solo home run from Jazz Chisholm Jr. and added two more runs to go 9-6 up. Their bullpen was able to close down the Blue Jays and hold on to an important win.

Derek Jeter left stunned by Aaron Judge’s home run in Game 3

Aaron Judge captured several headlines on Tuesday with his clutch home run in Game 3. His shot was so special that it even left former New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter stunned.

In Game 2, Judge missed the chance of hitting a grand slam as he went down swinging on a ball that was outside the zone. He would get severely criticized for this by some fans on social media.

The Yankees fans had kept their fingers crossed once again when Judge stepped up to the plate on Tuesday. On a 0-2 count, he was somehow able to smash the ball, which was coming at him at 100 mph inside the corner.

As per insider Ken Rosenthal, a total of 528 pitches on 0-2 count this year had been thrown out of the zone at 99 mph or above. This was the first one to be hit for a home run.

While analyzing the game on Fox Sports, Jeter expressed that he had no idea how Judge was able to hit that ball for a home run and keep it fair.

He hadn’t hit the big home run until this time, but he was taking what they (Blue Jays) were giving him. And he was getting his hits. He was getting on base. You could tell by his body language the confidence is there. I don’t know how he hit that pitch. It was 100 at his neck inside… There’s one person on the planet that can do it, and it’s Aaron Judge.

Judge also joined Hall of Famer David Ortiz in an exclusive club. This homer was his 6th during an elimination game and tied the record of “Big Papi” for the most in such MLB playoff games.

He and his teammates will be hoping for a similar performance in Game 4 on Wednesday. A victory in that match will force Game 5 in Toronto. The Blue Jays would be hoping to avoid that and get the job done in New York on Wednesday.
