Virat Kohli has been India’s go to match winner consistently across all formats in the last decade. However, the former Indian captain is struggling badly with poor returns in the longest format of the game. His Test average has gone below 50 and he has scored just two centuries in the last five years in red ball cricket.

Former Indian selector, MSK Prasad, called the form of India’s most ‘premier batter’ as concerning for the team in red ball cricket. Prasad, however, has confidence on Kohli’s abilities and feels that he will shine in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia despite not being among the runs in the home series against New Zealand. Kohli has struggled against all bowlers in red ball cricket in recent times and he has to look forward to turning it around in the upcoming tour of Australia.

Pujara was playing solidly on one side and Virat got aggression from the other end. The way Virat batted, he inspired everyone else. So the form of the most premier batter is definitely a cause for concern, that too with the ICC Test Championship and the points system that’s there. I am a hundred percent confident about the way Virat Kohli will start this tour. He might not have scored runs here (in India), but Virat Kohli definitely shines against big teams and on big occasions.

Kohli has scored just 88 runs in the four innings in the ongoing Test series against New Zealand as India have suffered their first Test series loss at home in 12 years. The former Indian captain scored 99 runs across the four innings in the previous Test series against Bangladesh at home.

Virat Kohli has to perform if India wants to win their third consecutive Test series against Australia

India will travel to Australia for a five match Test series which will start on November 22 in Perth. The most premier batter has to perform and get back to form, if India is to win their third consecutive Test series against Australia.

Kohli has to sort his issues out as he will be challenged by the likes of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon. The former Indian captain has historically come out on top in Australian soil and loves to take the challenge Down Under.

So, the Indian team management, along with captain Rohit Sharma, will hope that their premier batter at number four is back to his best in the upcoming Test series. It will also be vital for Kohli’s own revival of his Test career.
