23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams is without an iota an doubt one of the most successful tennis stars in the modern era. The consistency that the American has shown in her displays over the course of her career has been second to none. Apart from her 23 Majors in singles tennis, she has also won 14 Majors in doubles and 2 Majors in the mixed doubles category.

Serena withdrew from the French Open last year just before her match in the second round. She had injured her Achilles and the same ended her season. Ever since, she has been recovering from the injury and for her the COVID-19 pandemic and the delay in the tennis season has turned out to be a good thing as it has given her more time to recover.

The 39-year-old stated in a recent interview that the delay in the tennis season was a good thing saying, “So whew, that was an unwanted blessing, but it was much needed for me. I definitely took that time to recover and to just do the best that I can and now it’s a lot better.” She further added, “It was great for me because I needed the time because I couldn’t practice because of my Achilles. I needed every time – I don’t think I would have been here if it was during the regular season.”

At present, Serena is in Australia where she is competing in the WTA 500 Yarra Valley Classic Event. She defeated Daria Gavrilova in the second round and is now set to play in the third round against Tsvetana Pironkova.
