The Oklahoma City Thunder, anchored by MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who scored a game-high 34 points, dominated the Minnesota Timberwolves from the first tip on Thursday night and never looked back. After the first quarter, the Thunder ran out to a dominating 26-9 lead and easily won 124-94 to secure their place in the Western Conference Finals.
Notably, NBA legend Magic Johnson chimed in on the Thunder’s immense achievement in the NBA this season. Before that, Johnson was not sure of this Thunder side being able to contend for a championship earlier this season. It’s safe to say that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the boys have put all those concerns to bed with an astonishing performance against the Timberwolves.
After witnessing this performance, Johnson also shared his views via social media. He took to his X to put forward his apology to the Thunder.
I want to apologize to the Oklahoma City Thunder for underestimating them and not thinking they were ready to compete for a Championship.

In addition, Magic Johnson made sure to give credit where credit was due by applauding SGA, the top guard who won the Western Conference Finals MVP award, general manager Sam Presti, and head coach Mark Daigneault.
Throughout the entire season, the Thunder has been the NBA’s most reliable and dominant club. The Thunder were the top seed in the Western Conference going into the playoffs after finishing the regular season with a league-best 68-14 record. Thanks to their star man, SGA, who has led them to this position in the league.
Moreover, the Thunder side has mostly handled their business on their path to the NBA Finals, and they are now only four victories away from winning the team’s first championship since moving from Seattle to Oklahoma City, except being forced to play seven games against the reigning champion Denver Nuggets.
Magic Johnson gives Shai Gilgeous-Alexander his fair share of credit after winning the West MVP trophy
The Thunder’s success was once again centered on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The All-Star guard won the Earvin Magic Johnson Trophy and was voted the 2025 Western Conference Finals MVP. In addition to his career-high 40 points in Game 4, he recorded 34 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds in Game 5. This called for immense praise from the main man, Magic Johnson himself.
Congratulations to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for winning the MVP of the Western Conference Finals named after me. What I love about Shai is that he dominates on the court and is humble off the court!

Last Wednesday, he was also crowned NBA MVP for the first time in his career after finishing ahead of Nikola Jokic of the Nuggets with 71 first-place votes and 29 second-place votes.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander joins an exclusive club after recent Game 5 win over the Thunder
The Oklahoma City Thunder star will join prospective Basketball Hall of Famer and Golden State Warriors standout point guard Stephen Curry in an exclusive group after winning the league MVP award and earning a spot in the NBA Finals with the Thunder. This is no ordinary achievement as the NBA has taken to their official account to rave about SGA.

When Shai Gilgeous-Alexander takes the hardwood in the 2025 NBA Finals, he will formally accomplish that achievement. As the Indiana Pacers and the New York Knicks continue to battle it out in the Eastern Conference finals, he and the Thunder will have to wait to find out which club they will be facing in the last round of the playoffs.
