Things took an ugly turn during the Marshall Thundering Herd’s football game against the Old Dominion when two of the Marshall’s players were caught on camera getting into a physical altercation with a ball boy on the sidelines.
A 12-second clip that has gone viral shows an Old Dominion ball boy holding a football and pulling away from Marshall player TyQaze Leggs in the end zone. As the ball boy bent down to pick something up off the turf, Marshall defensive end Josh Moten attacked him from behind, shoving him to the ground. The incident prompted Old Dominion receiver Antwaan Mays to step in and pull Moten away from the situation.
College football plays with their own footballs rather than sharing with the opponents like in the NFL. That’s why, the ball boy in possession of the ball on the sideline was attempting to collect the loose balls with the game coming to a close when Marshall players went hostile.

Hostility was evident from both sides during the incident; however, the cause of the scuffle has not been revealed. Interestingly, fans have their own theories about the incident. Some blame the ball boy, arguing that he should not have been on the field during the game or interacting with the players, while others hold the Marshall players responsible for escalating the situation.
Marshall overcomes first-half struggles to defeat Old Dominion and advance to SBC semifinals
In spite of the ugly sideline incident, the Marshall outperformed the Old Dominion with a 42-35 victory and secured a berth in the SBC (Sun Belt Soccer Championship) semifinals. They struggled immensely in the first half but paced up in the second, after Pablo Simon was imposed with a kickoff penalty.
Marshall scored an impressive 75-yard touchdown in the final four minutes of the game and held off their opponents twice before clinching the solid 42-35 victory. ODU attempted to recover as quarterback Colton Joseph made a third-down pass toward Isiah Paige. However, their opponents caught the wind of it, resulting in it getting knocked away by DB Ian Foster.
After this victory, Marshall (8-3, 6-1 in the Sun Belt Conference) can secure sole possession of the East Division title if they succeed in a victory over James Madison Dukes in the regular season finale on December 1.
