One of the few clubs in India to be owned by foreign investors, Mumbai City FC have sent their fans over the moon. Mumbai City announces Igor Angulo ahead of the 2021/22 season of the Indian Super League. The club posted a crafty video to announce the Spanish striker. Take a look at the video here:
In a club statement, Mumbai City FC announced the capturing of Igor Angulo. The statement read:
Mumbai City FC are delighted to announce the arrival of striker Igor Angulo. The 37-year-old Spaniard joins the reigning ISL League Winners’ and Champions after putting pen to paper on a one-year contract with the Islanders.
How has Igor Angulo fared in the past?
Playing for multiple clubs throughout his career, Igor Angulo landed to India in 2020 ahead of the 2020/21 season. The player signed up for FC Goa and was instrumental in Gaurs’ top-of-the-table finish. The prolific goal scorer featured in 19 games for FC Goa in the pandemic struck season. In those games, he scored 13 goals.
Throughout his career, Igor Angulo has played in 425 games and has scored 176 goals in the process. Also, he has 31 assists to his name highlighting his play-making ability.
Mumbai City announces Igor Angulo: What Sergio Lobera had to say?
The former FC Goa gaffer and the champion manager, Sergio Lobera was delighted with the signing of Igor Angulo ahead of the crucial season for Mumbai City. Though the club finished as the Champions last season, they were unable to get the AFC Champions League action. Sergio Lobero said to the club website:
"Igor is a veteran campaigner and a class act on and off the field. We’ve seen his goalscoring prowess in the previous seasons and how dangerous he can be for the opposition. He is someone who will bring a lot of valuable experience along with his skill and we are confident he can help us and bring the best out of the players playing alongside him. His understanding of the game and his guile on a football pitch will be an asset for us in this historic season that lies ahead of us. I am really pleased to have Igor with us at Mumbai City.
