The Hurt Business was a highly successful and dominant faction during the pandemic era, featuring Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin, MVP, and Cedric Alexander, all of whom held championships at some point. However, three out of the four members have since departed from WWE. Recently, the former United States Champion shared insights into why WWE was hesitant to bring the group back together.
While speaking at the K&S WrestleFest virtual signing, MVP revealed that there had been a plan to bring The Hurt Business back together. However, WWE changed course, pairing Bobby Lashley with the Street Profits instead. The mentor figure of the faction even mentioned that t-shirts were made with “Hurt Business” on the front and “Back in Business” written on the back.
The 51-year-old veteran further explained that he received a call from Bruce Prichard, who informed him that they were going in a different direction. He was critical, stating that it wasn’t a wise business decision by the Stamford-based company. MVP also mentioned that the decision to pair Lashley with Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford turned out to be detrimental for all involved.
We were told we were going to be reunited. I still have a shirt. The shirts were made. They were made. We were told that it was going to happen. I get a call from Bruce, ‘Somebody should have called you. Sorry. We decided we’re going in a different direction.’ What the f**k is that?MVP via the K&S WrestleFest virtual signing
He openly criticized WWE for giving a push to The Bloodline, which was intended for The Hurt Business. Lashley and MVP were released from WWE a few months ago, with both stars officially announcing their departure from the company. The only remaining member, Cedric Alexander, is still under contract with WWE and regularly appears on the NXT brand.
MVP provided an update on his wrestling journey after his release from WWE
After his release from the Stamford-based company, many fans thought the 50-year-old veteran might end his wrestling career. He shared several posts on social media about preparing to participate in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament. However, his recent post hinted that he might be willing to continue his 23-year wrestling career.
Porter took to Instagram and shared a video clip of himself in “Killmonger” ring gear, inspired by the Black Panther character. MVP mentioned that he might bring that gear back for his next few matches. He confirmed that he plans to return to the squared circle and add a few more matches to his record before finally deciding to hang up his boots.
I still have the 'Killmonger' ring gear. I may have to bring that back. I'll be back in the ring. I have a few more matches before I finally retire from the ring. Stay tuned...MVP on Instagram
The last match he wrestled was nearly two years ago on an episode of Raw, where he teamed up with Omos. They suffered a loss to a duo that later joined forces with Lashley and the Street Profits. Only time will tell which promotion MVP will choose for his final few matches before he calls it a day.
