“My mind was messed up” – Prithvi Shaw explained how he regained his form after dismal outing in Australia
Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw has been scoring runs almost at will in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. The opener’s exemplary run of form has ensured that his side Mumbai have made their way to the final where they will face Uttar Pradesh. The youngster has scored four centuries in the tournament already which includes a double-hundred. Such has been his form that it won’t be a surprise if he scores a century in the final as well.
It wasn’t all rosy not so long ago for Shaw however. In the test series against Australia down under that India famously won, Shaw was the subject of a plethora of discussions over his poor form. In the first test in Adelaide, Shaw was dismissed out bowled and cheaply at that. This led to a lot of debate about his technique and he was ultimately dropped from the test team for the series against England.
Prithvi Shaw opens up on his struggles
Prithvi Shaw opened up about his struggles in Australia and how he overcame them while speaking to Indian Express. “My mind was messed up. My bat was coming down from the gully area, but that’s how I have scored runs all my life. The problem was the way I was getting out and I had to fix it immediately. My back lift was the same but my bat was coming down slightly away from my body. There was an issue with the initial movement. I was in a fixed position. I needed to keep my bat closer to my body, which I wasn’t doing,” Shaw said.
Shaw then revealed how Sachin Tendulkar‘s advice helped him saying, “I met Sachin sir (Tendulkar) after I came back, he said don’t make too many changes and to just play as close to the body as I could. I was late on the ball. So during the entire Australia tour, I worked on that part. Maybe it was because I had gone to Australia after playing in Dubai (IPL).”
Shaw also spoke of how the Indian coach staff helped him out. “Ravi (Shastri) Sir and Vikram (Rathour) Sir made me realize where I was going wrong. I had to find a solution. Just go back to the nets and fix it. There were small mistakes that I was making. Those two innings (Adelaide, pink-ball Test) made me look bad,” Shaw signed off.
