Myles Garrett was all but out of Cleveland, Ohio, ahead of the season. The Texas A&M alum had expressed his desire to change teams to fulfill every NFL journeyman’s desire: lift the coveted Lombardi Trophy.
Everyone was so sure the former Defensive Player of the Year would end up on a new team by September. That was when he accepted a lucrative contract from the Cleveland Browns that made him the highest-paid non-quarterback back then.
The new season hasn’t been a bed of roses for the Browns. The franchise, which has had a sole playoff win in the past twenty-five years or more, was once again troubled by quarterback problems. They had six quarterbacks just a few weeks before the season started, but now they are down to three. They even traded their starter to the Cincinnati Bengals.
After eight weeks, the Browns have just two wins, and the latest defeat to the New England Patriots seemed like the last nail before Garrett exploded on the sidelines. After all, he did give his best in the loss, recording five sacks and seven pressures. The numbers are even more important considering that he became the first player since 2000 to record five or more sacks in a single game.
From the record they currently hold, there is no doubt that Garrett, like any other player, would be frustrated. His outburst garnered a strong social media engagement and paved for a strong accusation from HOFer Jared Allen.
Allen, a four-time Pro Bowler and twice league leader in sacks, accused Garrett of following the money after stating that he’s a fan of Garrett up front. He claimed that Garrett had the chance to remove himself from the team, and he still signed another contract with them. He addressed that Cleveland has a lot of issues they need to fix if they are ever going to be a team with winning potential. Allen said on the Kay Adams’ ‘Up and Adams’ Show:
I’m a massive Myles Garrett fan… But dude, you had your chance, and you chose the money. You knew what you were getting into… I love Stefanski, but Cleveland is Cleveland because, again, they’ve got to fix it up front and figure out what they are going to do at the quarterback position.
Allen also requested that the Browns’ management revisit the defensive edge’s initial request. He called for the Browns to trade Garrett and buy some picks to rebuild their franchise, while allowing the Aggies alum to go and win somewhere else. Allen even squeezed in a punchline that somehow picturized the current state of the Browns. He added:
The reality is they are so far away from a championship that he’ll have a gold jacket before they even sniff that.
"Dude, you had your chance and you chose the money, you knew what you were getting into… If I'm Cleveland, I'm trading Myles Garrett."

The Cleveland Browns made a mistake in extending Myles Garrett
The Cleveland Browns made a significant move this offseason, but not everyone is on board. Despite Myles Garrett being one of the NFL’s elite pass rushers, Browns analyst Daryl Ruiter labeled the extension as a major mistake.

Ruiter explained that the Browns’ not trading him did make sense at one point. He mentioned that the Browns would have thought that they didn’t want to be the organization that traded him. However, they blamed the organization for not being competitive when they have someone who Ruiter considers as a future HOFer on their roster.
How competitive are you with Myles right now? You have a future Hall of Famer that’s doing record-breaking things, and you’re non-competitive. That’s why it was a bad decision for them to extend Myles. They should’ve traded him.

Ruiter argued that extending Garrett was a major mistake, as trading him could have brought Cleveland multiple high-value draft picks, including first-rounders, and possibly a few proven impact players in return, something that Allen also raised.
