Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, Kenny Pickett, and even Joe Flacco participated in the recent stretch of OTAs at the Cleveland Browns’ facility. But there was one notable absentee. One of Browns’ highest-paid players, Myles Garrett, was nowhere to be seen in the vicinity.
Reporters were curious about Garrett’s absence, considering he is one of the leaders of the Browns team. As it turns out, the 29-year-old defensive end is on vacation all the way across the world in Japan.
Fans in the country of the rising sun noticed the All-Pro athlete with a certain Olympian. Rumors started to flow about Garrett’s love life.
Then came the big breaking news on Sunday. Myles Garrett attended the Anime Awards in Tokyo with two-time Olympic gold medalist snowboarder Chloe Kim.

The news undeniably caught everyone by surprise. Previously, it was thought that Garrett was dating former soccer player turned nutritionist Serra Tumay. They began dating in 2019, two years after the Browns drafted Garrett into the NFL. She appeared on Garrett’s Instagram, and rumors about the pair secretly dating began to circulate.
However, Kim’s entrance in the frame raises questions about whether Garrett and Tumay are no longer together. Garrett has remained tight-lipped about the new development.
How did Kevin Stefanski react to Myles Garrett missing the OTAs?
Fans expect the big-name players to attend off-season training. However, the initial weeks of the camp are voluntary, so the veterans don’t need to show up every day.

It’s really important to remember that this is a voluntary program… We’re not reporting who’s here on what day. So, there are guys that will be in and out of the program and that is totally their prerogative. But the guys that are here will just continue to work.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski said via Cleveland.com
Garrett wasn’t the only one to miss the OTAs on Wednesday. New wide receiver Diontae Johnson and Pro Bowl cornerback Greg Newsome II were the bigger-name athletes who remained absent.
It’s fortunate that Garrett is even on the Browns roster. The 2023-24 Defensive Player of the Year demanded a trade from the team after the Super Bowl in New Orleans in February.
Garrett went around promoting himself on various talk shows and podcasts. Teams that required a star defensive lineman showed interest until the Browns tied him down to a new contract. He signed a four-year, $160 million extension on March 9, with $123.5 million guaranteed and an average salary of $40 million per year.
The new extension made Myles Garrett the highest-paid DE in NFL history and one of the highest-paid players ever. This reset the market, but Garrett doesn’t mind because the Browns will get their money’s worth.
I think I had some frustration. And, you know, I feel like that helped us grow and have conversations that were difficult but needed to be had. I think the fans will see that my heart is in the right place. It has never been about money. It’s always been about winning.
