The trash-talking between the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions attracted national attention ahead of their week four clash at Ford Field. Even Myles Garrett, who prefers to do the talking with his moves on the field, could not resist partaking in it.

It all started after Lions offensive coordinator John Morton claimed that the Browns defense hasn’t “seen a run game like ours yet.” Morton’s statement sent shockwaves throughout the football world. Reporters relayed Morton’s assessment to Garrett during a recent press conference. In reply, the All-Pro DE said:

[Morton’s] entitled to his opinion. He hasn’t seen a defensive front like ours. He’s entitled to say what he wants, and we have the privilege to see who’s right… It will be a battle of ideologies [when we meet].

Garrett has done his homework. The Browns are the number one run defense in the league, giving up just 57.3 yards on the ground. The Lions are no slouch either. Dan Campbells team averaged 149 rushing yards through the first three games of the season.

However, Detroit had a horrible start to the campaign, losing 13-27 at home to divisional rivals, the Green Bay Packers. Week 2 saw the return of former OC Ben Johnson to Detroit with his new team, the Chicago Bears. Campbell’s men scored 50 points past them before upsetting the Baltimore Ravens in week three.

Cleveland started with consecutive defeats to rivals, the Cincinnati Bengals and the Baltimore Ravens, before stunning the Green Bay Packers last week.

Dan Campbell praised Myles Garrett

Amidst all the indirect bickering, Campbell tried to calm the situation down by pulling a genius move. He praised the Browns’ star defensive player. Campbell had nothing but positives to say about Garrett when pressed by the media this week.

[Myles Garrett has] got everything. It starts with his size, his length, and his get-off. His flexibility, his ability to bend the edge, man… You get a jump [from him], you’ve got length, and now you can touch your shoulder on the ground when you turn the corner. That makes it very difficult. He’s got power. He can counter.

Garrett’s 4.0 sacks place him at joint second with the New York Giants linebacker Brian Burns and behind Packers defensive lineman Rashan Gary and Los Angeles Rams Byron Young with 4.5.

Last year, Garrett amassed 47 combined tackles, 14.0 sacks, and 1 pass deflection. Since becoming the Browns’ first overall pick in 2017, the Texas A&M graduate has appeared in 120 NFL games, accumulating 368 combined tackles, 106.5 sacks, 17 pass deflections, 20 forced fumbles, 6 fumble returns, and 1 fumble return touchdown.

Garrett’s award column holds 6 All-Pro mentions, 6 Pro Bowls, and a 2023 Defensive Player of the Year medal. On March 9, Myles Garrett signed a four-year, $160 million contract with $123.5 million guaranteed and an average salary of $40 million per year. The extension includes a no-trade clause, keeping him in Cleveland through the 2030 NFL season.
