Myles Garrett, the Cleveland Browns’ star edge rusher, has expressed for the first time in his eight-year career a willingness to consider leaving the team. Garrett admitted that he would look into changing teams if they cannot present a clear and immediate plan for success.

The Browns are sitting at a disappointing 3-11 and nearing the end of another losing season. Myles Garrett’s frustration has reached the tipping point. Meanwhile, his ultimate goal remains to win a Super Bowl with the Browns, Garrett made it clear during a recent media session that he has no interest in a long-term rebuild.

Garrett, under contract through 2026, emphasized the importance of the team’s direction aligning with his ambition to compete at a high level. After enduring just two winning seasons and only one playoff victory since being drafted No. 1 overall in 2017, his patience is understandably thin.

First of all, I want to win. I want the Browns to be able to put me and us in position to win. I’m not trying to rebuild. I’m trying to win right now.

Myles Garrett said to the reporters

Despite his frustration, Garrett expressed loyalty to Cleveland, citing his ties to the city as a minority owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers and an active community ambassador. However, his competitive drive and desire to build a legacy are pushing him to demand more from the organization. A trade could be a win-win for both parties, providing the Browns with assets to rebuild and giving Garrett a chance to compete for a championship elsewhere.

As the season winds down, Garrett’s future with the Cleveland Browns will likely hinge on their ability to provide him with a convincing blueprint for success. If they cannot, one of the NFL’s most dominant defenders may find himself suiting up for a new team in pursuit of the Lombardi Trophy that has eluded him thus far.

Cleveland Browns quarterback uncertainty complicates Myles Garrett’s future plans

The Browns’ current uncertainty at quarterback further complicates the situation. Although Deshaun Watson is expected to return from a ruptured Achilles next season, the Browns will also be exploring upgrades at the position, with the No. 7 overall pick in the draft as a potential asset. Garrett stressed the importance of a clear plan for 2025.

If [Dorian Thompson-Robinson] is the solution or someone else is, it’s got to be drawn out. There’s got to be a plan of action.

Myles Garrett added

The Browns are expected to explore all options in their search for a top quarterback, whether through free agency, a trade, or the draft, where they currently hold the No. 7 overall pick. A rookie quarterback often comes with growing pains – Caleb Williams at Chicago and Anthony Richardson at Indianapolis.

He acknowledged that while relying on a rookie might be part of the plan, plans can change, and he would need to see how things unfold before forming an opinion. Garrett emphasized that it’s difficult to speculate without having had any concrete discussions about the team’s direction.
