Myles Garrett was tired of losing and has not sported a smile during this 2025 NFL season. Now that backup quarterback Shedeur Sanders was starting, the pass rusher’s eyes were firmly on the rookie to see how he responds to pressure.

After his disappointing debut in their Week 11 clash against the Baltimore Ravens, many decided to remind the Colorado Buffaloes star that the weight of the world is on his shoulders.

Some did agree that he was about to get the best chance to start his career with a win against the Las Vegas Raiders, and Sanders did not disappoint.

Deion Sanders did make it a point to be inside the tunnel when his son was about to start his 1st game as the Cleveland Browns quarterback. The latter ensured his first drive stayed true to what his father had taught him.

After opening the game with 2 straight completions, Shedeur Sanders then faced a sack and a few more attempts through the first 13 minutes of the game.

Then, standing at Las Vegas’ 46-yard line, the QB was asked to find fellow rookie Isaiah Bond. After receiving the ball, Sanders scrambled to his right and correctly launched the ball on his right foot.

Myles Garrett, who was watching this entire sequence from the sidelines, tracked the ball and saw it perfectly dropping into Bond’s hands. When cameras switched to him, understandably, his hand was on his head, amazed at what the rookie quarterback just did.

Shedeur Sanders gets his first career touchdown pass

That 53-yard pass from Shedeur Sanders helped set up fellow rookie Quinshon Judkins for his second touchdown of the 1st quarter. With that, the Browns took a two-score lead against the Las Vegas Raiders.

In the following quarter, Sanders took his first snap and threw it directly into the hands of the Raiders’ D-lineman Charles Snowden. After this interception, cameras captured the 23-year-old going through film to understand why he made that mistake.

From then on, the rookie QB could not get it going, as the Browns punted on 4 occasions with a Jerry Jeudy fumble in between. It was not until the 4th quarter that Sanders helped set his team up for a field goal.

On the next drive, the Texas native was standing at the Raiders’ 34-yard line and instantly threw a short lateral dart to fellow rookie running back Dylan Sampson.

The latter evaded Raiders defenders and left others in the dust to score a touchdown. That 66-yard connection helped Shedeur Sanders score his 1st career touchdown as an NFL player.

Shedeur Sanders breaks Browns QB trend

Sanders finished his first full career start with a stat line of 209 yards on 55% completion, averaging 10.5 yards per completed pass, one touchdown, one interception, one sack, and an 87.3 quarterback rating.

For stat geeks, these numbers would be average at best. However, the same geeks would be impressed with another stat the 5th-round pick recorded.

It so happens that since 1999, no quarterback making his debut for the Cleveland Browns has won their 1st game. Sanders becomes the first quarterback to lead the team to a win after 17 signal callers failed in those 26 years.

That was the longest active streak in the league, and it so happens that the most hyped, criticized, and trolled quarterback prospect broke it.

Some may dismiss this win as an easy one, considering the Raiders are one of the worst teams in the league. However, so were the Browns, especially on offense, and Shedeur Sanders has now given them the most excitement they have had this season.
