The past three years have been nothing less than tragic for the Cleveland Browns fanbase. The air of optimism after the Deshaun Watson trade has waned as the quarterback has struggled due to injuries and performed below average. The only silver lining for the franchise was star defensive end Myles Garrett who has been dominant.
However, he too is done with the Cleveland Browns franchise. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year announced his intention to part ways with the organization. In a statement released on Monday, Myles Garrett cited the lack of a winning culture within Cleveland as the reason for his departure.
His ultimate goal since joining the NFL has been to win a Super Bowl, which he realizes cannot be accomplished here.

The Browns will now look to make up for his departure by receiving lucrative trade packages.
Fans are supportive of Myles Garrett’s decision to leave Cleveland
Garrett understands that he can be dominant for a few more years before his body can no longer perform as he does now. He has a sense of urgency to win a Super Bowl while having an immediate impact on a team that is capable of getting there.
While his decision comes as a blow to the Browns’ fanbase, the reaction to his message has been positive with fans supporting him. They understand that the franchise has not done much to help foster a winning culture over the years and Garrett had no other option.
Here’s how they reacted to his message via X.
The Browns aren't serious about winning a SB and haven't been since they signed Watson. The fact he waited this long was a compliment to them. https://t.co/fh4K0FvXk2

You can’t really blame him. The browns have done nothing but make moves that set the team back for years. Garrett has been patient… but enough is enough. i hope he goes to a contender he deserves it!

this trade is about to be more insane than the luka trade
— JeffThrow (@jeffthrowcards) February 3, 2025
Any chance the Browns can just throw Watson in on that trade? We’ll tag a bag of peanuts at this point for him.

He's somehow going to end up on the Eagles in exchange for a 4th and 5th, both compensitory picks.

He deserves better

Everyone does better once they leave him
He deserves to play for a winner.

The defensive end still has two years left on his current contract. However, his impact would be felt by the Browns’ salary cap even after his departure because the team will have an estimated $36.1 million in dead boney and a $16.5 million salary cap charge as per Spotrac if traded. Cleveland will get it done before the NFL Draft so that they can utilize the picks to bring in fresh talent that can have an immediate impact.
