Myles Garrett stood on the verge of breaking the sack record. He set his sights on the Pittsburgh Steelers veteran quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, who had been sacked 25 times in 15 previous games.

Garrett had recorded 22 sacks for the season, putting him a half sack behind retired NFL star Michael Strahan and current Steelers player TJ Watt on 22.5 sacks. However, the seven-time Pro Bowler failed to land a hit on Rodgers.

Looking back, Garrett’s presence made it possible for Grant Delpit and Alex Wright to each record a sack. The constant pressure reduced Rodgers’ mobility and hindered his passing game. The 42-year-old completed just 53.8% of his passes for 168 yards.

Garrett claimed the Steelers focused too much on containing him instead of scoring points.

They were more worried about keeping me away from Aaron than getting the win. And I think that’s what came back to bite them.

The game ended with the Browns handing the Steelers a 13-6 defeat. It was the Browns’ fourth straight home victory against the Steelers.

How did Myles Garrett perform against the Steelers?

Garrett has been a bright spark in the Browns’ otherwise disastrous season. He surpassed his previous best sack record of 16 (2021 and 2022 seasons) and is on course for his second Defensive Player of the Year crown.

There were several instances when Garrett came close to breaking the sack record but came up short. That being said, Garrett created space for fellow Browns defenders to deliver hits on Rodgers. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Garrett chipped on 41.0% of his pass rush snaps against the Steelers, which is the 8th-highest rate for an EDGE in a game this season—his third-highest in 2025.

After 16 starts, Garrett has accumulated 32 tackles for loss, 42 combined tackles, 3 forced fumbles, and pass deflections.

Since making his debut in 2017, the former No. 1 pick has racked up over 410 combined tackles, over 290 of which he recorded solo, and 125.5 sacks. Garrett has one more game in his hand to break the record, and he remains confident of making it a reality.

Absolutely. Why shouldn’t I be? Four more quarters. 60 more minutes. However you want to draw it up, it’ll get done.

Rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders fared better on the night. Sanders completed 17 passes for 186 yards, threw one touchdown, and 2 interceptions. Fellow rookie Harold Fannin Jr. caught the only touchdown, improving his season’s tally to 6 receiving TDs on 72 receptions and 731 yards.

The Browns close out the year with a trip to Cincinnati to play the Bengals. In week one, the Bengals snatched a narrow 17-16 victory.
