The Cleveland Browns received bittersweet news a few months ago after it was reported that Deshaun Watson tore his Achilles tendon once again after surgery. The news was bitter and sweet for the same reason. The quarterback will most likely be out for the upcoming football season.

His injury is a setback to the franchise that has paid him a big sum. However, the team’s fanbase is relieved because Watson was unable to play well last season. With Watson likely out for the 2025-26 season, the Browns have begun to explore their options at quarterback.

While Jameis Winston is still a part of the franchise, the team is hoping to secure an experienced veteran quarterback at a lesser price. One person they are considering for the job is Russell Wilson. The former Seahawks quarterback redeemed himself last season with the Steelers. Russ showed that he is still worthy of being a starter in the NFL.

However, his deal with Pittsburgh was for one season and on a veteran minimum. He is now a free agent and is taking meetings with teams interested in his services. Russell Wilson was in the Browns facility on Thursday, and it so happens that Myles Garrett wound up giving his first press conference since signing his historic extension with the team.

Garrett spoke to Wilson and shared a few words hoping to encourage him to consider Cleveland. The edge rusher was asked about how he attempted to entice Wilson to join the Browns. He had a simple yet hilarious response.

I won’t take him to the ground three or four times a year.

Russell Wilson can make the Browns a playoff-worthy team

Myles Garrett’s words should be music to a quarterback’s ears. Having not to worry about having one of the strongest and fastest edge rushers in the NFL constantly chasing you. Russell Wilson bore the brunt of Garrett’s power last season. He was sacked four times by the defensive end in their matchups during the 2024 NFL season.

I think it went well. Him and I had a little bit of conversation at the Pro Bowl, as well as here. I definitely think he’d be a valuable asset as a leader, as a mentor to those young guys. Veteran leadership can’t be overstated and I think he definitely has some juice left at the position. He has plenty of arm left, he’s very smart and he knows what he’s capable of. So he’d be a valuable asset.

Myles Garrett did his best to pitch the Browns to Russell Wilson as an option, but there is no guarantee that the quarterback and the team can arrive at a deal they both feel content with. Pittsburgh is yet to decide on Wilson’s future and that too has a part to play in his decision-making process.

Myles Garrett has had an amazing off-season. In the lead-up to the Super Bowl, the edge rusher sought a trade from the Browns’ front office. He justified his request by stating that he wanted to win a Super Bowl and compete. However, a few weeks later, it was reported that the Browns had convinced Garrett to stay in Cleveland through the 2030 season.

The team did this by offering him a four-year contract worth $160 million. He has become the highest-paid non-quarterback in the history of the NFL. Garrett is fully deserving of this deal and the former Defensive Player of the Year will look to continue dominating quarterbacks in the coming seasons.
