Naby Keita undergoing fitness training under new Head of Recovery and Performance and expected to come back stronger than before
Naby Keita last played for Liverpool against Crystal Palace and since then has been injured and Liverpool haven’t won a match since then. Liverpool fans know the dynamic midfielder’s presence in the team means that the team plays better than before. Now the fans are waiting for Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara to play together and unleash havoc in tandem along with Fabinho as the holding midfielder. Jordan Henderson will have to up his game in order to bring competition to Liverpool’s midfield.
Liverpool trying their very best to banish Naby Keita’s injury woes and make him a complete package
There’s no denying Naby Keita’s talent as his performances speak for themselves and plays well as a creative midfielder. Unlike Gini Wijnaldum, Keita seeks to pass the ball forwards and push the attack upwards rather than stall the game with sideways passing. Jurgen Klopp didn’t make his admiration a secret and declared that Naby Keita was his favourite midfielder in the Bundesliga along with Thiago Alcantara. That was why Liverpool paid £52 million to RB Leipzig beforehand and received him in the 2018/19 season.
However this move has been less than perfect as injuries have hit him miserably and it is evidently frustrating for the fans and Jurgen Klopp. Everyone knows how talented he is, but are also frustrated that he couldn’t put together 5-10 matches in a row without being injured for weeks. Football being stopped by COVID-19 was beneficial for some players and Naby Keita was one of them to benefit from it along with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford. The post-lockdown period of the 2019/20 season for Liverpool showed Naby Keita at his best and that is what fans expect to happen week in week out.
Liverpool have now appointed a new specialist called Andreas Schlumberger who will now overlook over player recovery and fitness. He was a former medic with Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund and now Klopp has brought him to Liverpool. It is being reported that Keita is undergoing intensive exercise under him to improve his fitness. A fit Naby Keita can do wonders for Liverpool as he is one of the best pressers in Liverpool’s squad. This will be a massive advantage to Liverpool if he can stay injury free for long periods of time.
