“We f***king hosed ourselves,” Martin Truex Jr. and his crew chief go on an angry rant at each other after a “pitiful” finish at Richmond

The entire Toyota team had a day to forget at Richmond. Their poor run had less to do with the car’s pace and more with the mistakes.

Toyota drivers had a day to forget at their own sponsored event in Richmond Raceway. The Toyota Care 400 witnessed the TRD drivers making one mistake after another, and the poor day even got worse when the pit crews produced blunders. Christopher Bell, as it has been the most often this season, was the highest-finishing Camay with a P4, followed by Ty Gibbs, the only other TRD on the top 10 at P9.

Joe Gibbs Racing veterans Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. had one of the worst days at Richmond. The No:10 team had a pit stop mishap and two pit lane speeding penalties and ended up on P20. The No:19 car, on the other hand, suffered from poor tire strategy from the crew chief James Small. He failed to conserve tires long enough to give the former champion a shot at the win and even failed to share vital info with his driver.

Small started the conversation on team Radio after a P11, which could have been a Top 5. He said, “Sorry we fucking hosed ourselves. We were fucking out of tires. We had seven lap scuffs, so we were fucked,”. The veteran driver was a bit confused but pointed out that their day was awful. He said, “I don’t know what you just said, but that was pitiful,”.

Small wasn’t pleased with the response from his driver and revealed that  “We had fucking scuffed tires on there because we hosed ourselves taking a set in Stage 1, so we were fucked regardless. Sorry, we fucked up,”. While responding in frustration, Small missed out on one crucial thing he never let his driver know they had a scuffed tire.

Truex Jr. pushed the car in the final laps without knowing about the tire degradation. The lack of warning could have ended in a crash. But thankfully, it didn’t, Trues was vivid and shouted back at his crew chief, “You didn’t tell me you put scuffs on, so I didn’t know what the fuck was wrong, okay…Jesus.” Small responded to the rant by saying, “There was no point in telling you, we were fucked either way.

In case you missed it: “He can say what he wants,” Ross Chastain calls out Christopher Bell for labeling him “a wrecking ball”

JGR’s fellow TRD team 23XI Racing had similar bad luck at Richmond

The 23XI Racing Camry’s of Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace also had a disappointing day behind them. They failed to capitalize on the momentum they had from Reddick’s impressive win at COTA. The no:45 crew enjoyed P16 finish with no major action on the track to be happy for.

Bubba Wallace, on the other hand, had an even worse day as the driver failed to end his poor finishing streak since Vegas. He was the lowest-finishing Toyota at P22 while the team’s co-owner Michael Jordan was on watching them.

The No:23 team had a slow pitstop midway through the race. A 23 non-pit crew employee accidentally got over the safety wall, producing a safety violation, and Jordan was pissed to see the incident occur right in Infront of him.
