Rafael Nadal is one of the greatest athletes Spain can ever produce. 19-time Grand Slam winner Nadal’s historic 2008 Wimbledon win was rated among the top three moments of Spanish sports history. Nadal has been honoured by the Spanish Secretary of State for Sport.
Some photos from the Spanish sport’s history was shared by Country’s sports authority (CSD) in order to celebrate the world photography day. Andres Iniesta’s 2010 World Cup celebration and Paquito Fernandez Ochoa’s gold medal win at the 1972 Winter Olympics are the other greatest moments.
It is quite remarkable that all three players have achieved some exceptional feat in their careers. All three of them are greatest of all time. Iniesta is the sole Spanish footballer to score a goal in FIFA WorldCup final. Nadal is the only the greatest tennis player the country has produced. Ocha is the only Spanish player to win Winter Olympic gold.
Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer 2008 Wimbledon final
Nadal bagged his first grasscourt Major back in 2008 after beating Roger Federer in the final. The victory was quite huge as Nadal was the underdog and all the odds were against him. Nadal was up against a rival who was unbeaten in Wimbledon for the last five year. After fighting his legendary opponent for five hours, Nadal won the match 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-7(8-10), 9-7.
The final is considered one of the greatest matches in tennis history. It was Roger Federer first time losing a Grand Slam final. Rafael Nadal won another Wimbledon title in 2010, by beating Tomas Berdych in the final in straight sets.
