Tennis Superstar Naomi Osaka unveils ad campaigns for Nissan Ariya and Louis Vuitton
Naomi Osaka
Naomi Osaka has had some eye catching success on the tennis courts in the last two or three seasons. The last six to eight months have been exemplary. She won the US Open in September last year and followed it up with the Australian Open win in February 2021. Another interesting development that happened in the last year and a bit has been Osaka’s giving up of the US Passport.
Osaka, who is of mixed parentage, half-Japanese and half-Haitian was required by law in Japan to choose one country by the age of twenty-two. Osaka chose to become Japanese citizen and that meant giving up the US Citizenship. But that also meant Osaka was now free to represent Japan in the Tokyo Olympics.
Brands make a beeline for Naomi Osaka
The fact that Osaka is a very well known Sports person and a young icon in two of the worlds biggest markets, USA and Japan, makes her a very marketable brand. And once she coupled that with success on the court, there was no stopping her. Last year after her US Open triumph, Osaka was signed up by Japanese Car makers Nissan, this week she unveiled their new ad-campaign. Similarly, this year Louis Vuitton brought her on board. Osaka has been endorsing their new car, the Nissan Ariya.
Apart from these companies there are several other Japanese and American companies that have paid for Osaka’s services. Japanese companies include Japanese watch company Citizen, Japanese Noodles company Nissin, Japanese sports equipment companies Yonex, Japanese Broadcasting company Wowow, and Japanese beauty product company Shiseido. Apart from these there are a whole host of other companies from all over the world including Nike, TAG heuer etc. Naomi Osaka was the highest paid female athlete in the world last year and twenty-ninth on the overall list.
