Even though Nick Kyrgios is a controversial figure in the tennis world, Naomi Osaka admires some of his qualities. Kyrgios has often made scathing remarks on his colleagues, the most recent being his stinging comments on Jannik Sinner because of the doping saga.

Osaka is a good friend of Kyrgios and his podcast Good Trouble with Nick Kyrgios is sponsored by her company Hanakuma. Kyrgios in fact was the first client of her Evolve Sports Management agency.

Nick is a dynamic person both on and off the court. I am really drawn to people who are unapologetic about who they are and aren’t afraid to show all aspects of themselves. I also think there is a side to Nick few people see, but I can say he has a very big heart and, for him, giving back is really important, and that is a quality I admire about him.

Osaka will start her campaign for the 2025 season in Auckland before the Australian Open. Kyrgios on the other hand will be in Brisbane to make his comeback since last playing at the 2023 Stuttgart Open. [It] was something that really spoke to me because it provides free one-to-one support for people facing anxiety and depression. I think what spoke to me most about the campaign was spreading the message that if you’re dealing with those things, you’re definitely not alone.

Naomi Osaka told Harper’s BAZAAR

Because of depression and anxiety, Osaka withdrew from the 2021 French Open. She even withdrew from a press conference to take care of her mental health but it divided the tennis world.

But now that the four-time major champion is back on the court again, she will be hoping to reach once again the top of the rankings. She is World No. 58 and was 22/ 18 on the tour in 2024.
