After getting much-needed rest, top players have started featuring in exhibition events. Aryna Sabalenka and Naomi Osaka clashed in the Garden Cup exhibition event that took place at Madison Square Garden in New York.
During the match, Sabalenka invited a fan to play against Osaka to the delight of the fan as well as the crowd. The fan lost the rally against the Japanese ace and walked off the court toward the stands.
He was back on court when Osaka invited him to play for her, but he failed to break Sabalenka’s serve. Next time, the ball landed outside, and the crowd started booing. Sabalenka prevailed over Osaka once again, and he seemingly requested that Osaka give him one more chance, and also put his finger on his lips, jokingly asking the crowd to shut up.
He wanted to play with Sabalenka’s racket, which the Belarusian gave him, but still it did him no good as he ended up losing the next point as well. Osaka made sure to punish him by asking him to do push-ups.
I’m sorry, Aryna. I still love you. You’re still my queen, I love you!
The fan told Aryna Sabalenka

In the battle of the four-time Grand Slam singles champions, Sabalenka prevailed again 6-3, 4-6, 10-4- her second win over Osaka in their first clash since the 2018 Australian Open, which Osaka won before reaching the final and winning her career’s first Grand Slam title by defeating 23-time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams.
Sabalenka will feature in another exhibition event later this month. The World No.1 will lock horns with Nick Kyrgios in the much-awaited Battle of the Sexes, scheduled to be held on December 28 in Dubai. The exhibition event will be organized by Osaka’s agency Evolve.
Osaka, after making her comeback to the tour last year, has slowly started to climb up the rankings table, finishing the season on 16th spot with a 35/15 win-loss record. But once again, she failed to win a title. She gave the walkover to Clara Tauson in the ASB Classic, and later, Victoria Mboko denied her the Canadian Open title.
Kyrgios was also a part of the Gardens Cup and clashed with Ben Shelton. As expected, despite his injury problems, the Aussie didn’t let the home favorite win easily as he almost clinched the first set. The 2022 Wimbledon finalist ended up losing the match with a 7-6, 6-3 scoreline.
Sam Querrey thinks Iga Swiatek had a better season than Aryna Sabalenka
Aryna Sabalenka finished the season as World No.1 for the second consecutive time on the back of four titles she clinched from nine finals. One trophy was the US Open, which she defended by beating home favorite Amanda Anisimova. But according to Sam Querrey, Iga Swiatek had a better season.

For me give me Iga Swiatek. We have always talked about how she has dominated on clay, she kind of sucks on the grass, she will never make a run at Wimbledon, and then she won Wimbledon this year and completely changed that narrative.
Sam Querrey said on the Nothing Major podcast
After reaching her first grass-court final at the Bad Homburg Open, Swiatek ended her title drought at Wimbledon. She later clinched the Cincinnati Open and the Korea Open.
She won Cincinnati, too, which is historically somewhat of a fast hard court, so I feel like now when you talk about her game, you say she can win on any surface, and that started this year after winning Wimbledon.
Sam Querrey added
Because she failed to defend five titles, Swiatek even dropped to eighth spot on the rankings table. She finished the season as World No.2.
