Naomi Osaka revealed on social media that United Airlines lost her bags, and she could be at risk of missing out on the 2024 Cincinnati Open. The former World No.1 is aiming to use the Cincinnati Masters event as part of her training ahead of the US Open.
The Japanese ace has produced some stellar performance since her return to the Tour from her maternity leave. However, she is still struggling to produce consistency in her game. She exited in the women’s singles first round at the Paris Olympics, losing to Germany’s Angelique Kerber. She returned to the Tour and competed in the Canadian Open beating Ons Jabeur 6-3, 6-1 in 71 minutes.
The victory was the 26-year-old fifth Top 20 win this year. But she could not keep up with the momentum as she lost to Belgium’s Elise Mertens 3-6, 4-6 in the next round of the event. Despite the loss, next up for the four-time Grand Slam champion is the Cincinnati Open. However, an unfortunate incident occurred with Osaka’s bags. She revealed on social media that United Airlines lost her bags.

Naomi Osaka aims to get back to WTA Top 10 despite early exit at the Canadian Open
Naomi Osaka has admitted that she hopes to be back in the Top 10 following her loss to Elise Mertens in the second round of the Canadian Open in Montreal. The Japanese ace defeated only Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur before exiting from the tournament.
She has now won 17 out of her 32 matches so far this season and is currently ranked World No. 95 in the WTA rankings. Her best run of form this year was at the S-Hertogenbosch Open, where she reached the quarterfinals before losing to Bianca Andreescu. Against Mertens in the Canadian Open, mistakes and errors caused her to lose.
Unfortunately, I have always suffered a lot from my perfectionism, and I also tend to doubt myself a lot, but I think it’s necessary to go through this process and have tough losses from which you can learn a lot about yourself. I know there will be many tough defeats like this one, but hopefully, I hope to be back in the top ten soon.

Osaka will hope to forget the loss and focus on preparing well for the US Open, the tournament where she won her maiden Grand Slam in 2018.
