As per recent developments, Naomi Osaka and Patrick Mourtaglou will no longer be working together. The Japanese ace took to Instagram story to announce the split.
Osaka had added Serena Williams‘ former coach in September last year after parting ways with Belgian coach Wim Fissette, who is currently working with six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek. But under the Frenchman, too, Osaka struggled to perform consistently.
Merci Patrick it was such a great experience learning from you. Wishing you nothing but the best. You are one of the coolest people I’ve ever met and I’m sure I’ll see you around.

Before Osaka, Mouratoglou was in Holger Rune‘s entourage from 2022 to 2024. The most successful partnership was with Williams (2012-2022), who lifted 10 of her 23 Grand Slam singles titles under his tutelage.
Nothing lasts forever. What counts is what a collaboration has brought to each other and what lasts after. After 10 months of collaboration, we have decided to part ways professionally. I am grateful for the trust, the journey and what we have built together. I will always root for you and wish you nothing but the best.

The 27-year-old has reached just one final this season- the ASB Classic. She clinched the first set, but an injury forced her to hand the walkover to Clara Tauson.
Since then, Osaka has failed to make deep runs in the next tournaments she played, except for a Challenger event. In the WTA 125K tournament in Saint-Malo, the four-time champion beat Kaja Juvan in the final to win the title.
Osaka was last seen in action at the Citi Open, where 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu knocked her out in the last 16 round. The former World No.1 is in Montreal for the Canadian Open, where she will start her campaign on July 28 against home favorite Ariana Arseneault.
Emma Raducanu shares how she defeated Naomi Osaka
Emma Raducanu had scheduled her career’s first match against Naomi Osaka after knocking out seventh seed Marta Kostyuk in the opening round of the Citi Open. The former World No.10 broke no sweat in knocking out Osaka with a 6-4, 6-2 scoreline. At the press conference later, the Brit analyzed her game, explaining her plans that she executed well to dispatch Osaka.

Then I was making inroads into the service games once I got used to it a bit…if you float the second serve in, Naomi’s going to crunch it. I had to trust my abilities in the second serve and go for it.
Raducanu continued her Citi Open by beating Maria Sakkari in the quarterfinals to improve her head-to-head record to 4-0. In the semifinals, however, the World No.33 succumbed to a 6-4, 6-3 defeat against Anna Kalinskaya, who later lost the final to 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez.
Raducanu, too, is in Toronto for the first WTA 1000 event on the North American hard-court swing. She will kick-start her campaign against Elena-Gabriela Ruse. The 22-year-old hasn’t yet tasted success in a tournament since her fairytale run at the 2021 US Open.
Osaka, on the other hand, too, hasn’t yet won a tour-level title since lifting the 2021 Australian Open title. Since that win, she reached two finals- the 2022 Miami Open and the 2025 ASB Classic, losing both to Iga Swiatek and Clara Tauson, respectively.
Last year in the Canadian Open, Osaka ended up losing in the third round to Elise Mertens in straight sets. Raducanu skipped both the WTA 1000 events before the US Open, where she suffered a heartbreaking first-round exit, and she later vowed to add more tournaments to her schedule this year.
