Naomi Osaka parted ways with her long-term coach, Wim Fissette, following her disappointing run at the US Open. The Japanese star had beaten Jelena Ostapenko in her opening match at the Flushing Meadows but succumbed to defeat against semifinalist Karolina Muchova in the second round.
Osaka began working with Fissette in 2020 and had two good stints with the Belgian coach. Her first stint with Osaka was from 2020 to 2022. Fissette was in her corner when she won her maiden Grand Slam at the 2020 US Open. He helped her claim the 2021 Australian Open and also reach the 2020 Cincinnati Open and 2022 Miami Open.
After Osaka’s 15 months of maternity leave, Fissette reunited with the former World No.1. However, things haven’t gone as expected eight months into the new season.
Despite a refreshed and optimistic outlook, Osaka always fell short when it mattered. She was beaten by Carolina Garcia in the first round. At the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open, she failed to make it past the second round.
Out of 16 tournaments Osaka has featured in this season, she has managed to reach the quarterfinals in only two events. She took to Instagram to reveal her split with Fissette after the second stint.
Four years, two Slams and a whole lot of memories. Thanks Wim for being a great coach and an even greater person. Wishing you all the best.Osaka wrote on her Instagram story
However, hours after announcing her split with Fissette, Osaka was seen training with veteran coach Patrick Mouratoglou. Mouratoglou recently split with Holger Rune after a second short stint. He has also been heavily criticized for having a hand in Simona Halep‘s doping ban.

Fans on social media have slammed Naomi Osaka for training with Patrick Mouratoglou after splitting with Wim Fissette. The Japanese star couldn’t live up to expectations after returning from maternity leave this year.
She has often revealed how much she wants to play better, but it is hard to put that up on the court.
She looks to have turned to veteran coach Mouratoglou for help, with the recent picture of her training with him. However, fans have let out their opinion about the likely partnership, stating she wants to be like Serena Williams.

As a big fan of Naomi Osaka, whoever is giving her career advice needs to stop giving her career advice.
Can’t believe she chose him. Probably he is paying her to be her coach

Let's just hope she doesn't take any supplements he provides

1 of 2 things can happen. 1) the partnership is disaster 2) it’s match made in heaven. Patrick is known to be a tough coach who is straight forward, brutally honest, & demanding. If Naomi is choosing him I have to think she is VERY serious abt being back in top & making big moves

There goes her career down spiralling. This guy just chooses top players to advertise his academy. He's no world class coach at all. Show us young one he took from lower ranks to build them up. Snake oil marketer indeed. @naomiosaka we had hope, gone now

Naomi thinks she is Serena but so far from it.

Surprised as well, particularly with what happened with Halep and to a lesser extent Rune. Fingers crossed that Naomi knows what she is looking for and will soon be on the right track again.

Osaka has a good head-to-head record against Serena Williams. The 26-year-old beat the Williams three times in their four meetings.
