Willow Nightingale put her AEW TBS Championship on the line against Mercedes Moné at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view. After a hard-fought battle, the former WWE star won her first match in AEW and became the new TBS Champion. Her victory garnered praise from many fans and wrestlers, including her close friend Naomi.

After her close friend won her first title in AEW, Naomi posted her friend’s name on X alongside a smirking emoji. The two have been extremely close throughout their wrestling careers. They were Tag Team Champions in WWE, walked out of the company together, and the former TNA star even went to see her friend’s AEW debut live.

Moné had been out of in-ring action for more than a year due to an ankle injury. The female superstar had her return match on the big stage with a title on the line. She even got emotional at the start of the match due to the overwhelming support she received from the fans.

The formerly known Sasha Banks had her work cut out for her against the formidable Willow Nightingale. She even got a visual 3-count on her challenger, but referee Aubrey Edwards was distracted by Kris Statlander. Eventually, the match ended with Moné coming out on top and being crowned the new champion.

Mercedes Moné reveals major details about her injury

Mercedes Moné suffered a nasty ankle injury nearly a year ago while facing Willow Nightingale. Following the injury, her doctor told her that she may never be able to compete again. Thankfully, things did not go that way, and she made her way back to the ring. The female star recently revealed more details about her recovery process.

In an interview with the New York Post, the former WWE Women’s Champion revealed that she had been cleared to compete since December 2023. However, Tony Khan was looking for a perfect spot for his new signee’s AEW debut.

She also recalled being ecstatic when Tony Khan told her that she would be debuting at the Boston Garden at AEW Dynamite: Big Business. He asked Moné if she could wait till Double or Nothing, where they would celebrate AEW’s fifth anniversary in Las Vegas, to which the CEO agreed.
