Naoya Inoue was able to defend his undisputed titles successfully and extend his knockout streak against Luis Nery. The fight happened on May 6, 2024, at the Tokyo Dome in Japan. Many people couldn’t help but compare the fight with Mike Tyson vs. Buster Douglas, which also occurred in the same venue in 1990. In addition, the fighting odds were also similar since Inoue is regarded as the number two pound-for-pound boxer in the world.

The fight also almost ended with an upset, the same way Tyson vs. Douglas did after Inoue got knocked down in the first round. This was quite shocking since ‘The Monster’ had never been dropped to the canvas across his professional career. However, Inoue brushed off the damage with ease and maintained his composure. In the second round, he was able to turn the tide completely by knocking down Luis Nery.

After the first two rounds, it appeared as if both fighters were still not done with their aggressive attacks. As such, both of them kept pressing forward against each other even after their individual knockdowns. In the fourth round, Nery seemed to have regained his confidence and started to once again attempt to overwhelm Naoya Inoue.

However, this was useless since Inoue managed to retaliate with his immense speed and power advantage. In the fifth round, Nery began to take more risks with his attacks. He did this because they were being neutralized. Eventually, this risk led to him being knocked down for the second time. After this, Inoue knocked him down again in the sixth round and won via TKO.
