Phoenix Raceway appoints NASCAR’s first-ever female African American track president just a week ahead of the 2022 season finale
Latasha Causey
Phoenix Raceway will welcome its new track president Latasha Causey on November 28. She is the first woman of color to assume the role in NASCAR. Causey will replace Julie Giese, the first woman president of the track.
Julie Giese will oversee the Chicago Street course’s cup series debut next season after the finale. Latasha Causey is a founding member of the NASCAR Accelerators host committee, founded in 2020. She is also the Sports Business Journal’s Outstanding Women in Business Award winner.
Latasha Causey believes she can showcase the local community to the rest of the country with her new executive role. She said, “NASCAR is a sport that brings people together, and as a result, Phoenix Raceway plays a key role in showcasing our great community to visitors across the country every year,”.
Causey will build upon the great work that the previous authority has done. She said, “I cannot wait to help build upon the great work that’s already been done in making this facility one of the true gems in sports and entertainment,”.
NASCAR’s opinion on the historic appointment
Chip Wile, NASCAR senior vice president and chief track properties officer, who spoke for the organization, pointed out that Latasha is a highly experienced executive. She will prioritize the organization’s community goals.
“Latasha’s track record speaks for itself as a highly experienced executive that prioritizes relationships and giving back to the community – also core values of ours at NASCAR,” said Chip Wile.
Chip Wile said that Latasha is the perfect fit for leading Phoenix Raceway. His opinion was based on the factors such as the community partnership and the best-in-class fan experience the track has provided over the years, which resonate with Causey.
“NASCAR and Phoenix Raceway take pride in making a positive impact on the community through creating a best-in-class experience for fans when they visit the track, as well as through actively giving back and playing a significant role as a community partner. Because of these ideals, Latasha is the perfect fit to lead Phoenix Raceway into 2023 and beyond,” added Chip Wile.
