The 2023 All-Star race at north Wilkesboro was an eventful night for NASCAR’s only Black Cup driver Bubba Wallace. He secured a P2 finish, his best in the exhibition, behind race winner Kyle Larson. The result was the only thing Wallace was disappointed by on the day as he welcomes with boos from the crowd.

Wallace responded to the crowd’s boos epically as he mocked them during the driver intro, showing the cry more gesture. It was the last incident of the day; just before his post-race interview, the 23XI Racing driver was spotted showing the middle figure to someone off-camera, prompting a mixed reaction online. The Fox interviewer missed Wallace’s gesture and went on with the conversation.

Some fans were dreaming of sanctions against the driver. But to their disappointment, NASCAR said they would not fine him for the actions. The officials understand that it was aimed at his friend without malicious intent. While showing the birdie on live TV is debatable, it’s not the first time and will not be the last time such things happen in high-intensity sports like NASCAR.

Bubba Wallace won’t be penalized for flipping the bird on pit road after the race. It is NASCAR’s understanding he was gesturing to a friend, and while inappropriate, it wasn’t done malicious,” Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports reported about a potential penalty.

Not for the first time this season, Bubba Wallace’s radio was hijacked by some ill-intentioned fans after the race. The individual was able to get a hold of the radio since NASCAR teams use public frequency to communicate. One person said, “Go back to where you came from you a******,”. After sometimes another individual was heard saying, “You’re not wanted in NASCAR,”.

A spokesperson of 23XI Racing confirmed that Wallace was already disconnected from the radio, and fortunately, he didn’t have to hear the words. NASCAR has announced that they will investigate the incident and derogatory comments made by the fans.

Wallace, who is one of the most divisive figures of the sport, has been attacked verbally offline and online as well by a small group of fans. Their actions are prompting stereotypes such as NASCAR fans being racist. NASCAR has to end such incidents so that the genuine criticism regarding racing from the fans gets the voice it deserves.
