NASCAR’s Michigan weekend turned into a nightmare for HMS star Alex Bowman. The 32-year-old suffered a massive wreck during the race. Bowman opened up about the crash, and his physical state after leaving the care center.

During Stage 2 of the race, Alex Bowman found himself slamming into the outside wall. This is not the first time the HMS star has suffered a massive wreck in the era of Next Gen cars. In 2022, Bowman missed out on several races after facing a concussion-like injury. Though, there have been tweaks to the cars since then, to prevent such injuries.

The 32-year-old confessed that he was in a lot of pain following the wreck. Moreover, Alex Bowman claimed that this incident was likely the worst hit he has taken in his career. Moreover, the HMS cursed himself for the collision, since it was the home race for his sponsor.

Yeah, that hurt a lot. Probably top of the board on hits I’ve taken, and unfortunately, I’ve taken a lot of hits. So, hate that for the Ally 48 team, obviously, Ally’s from here.

Alex Bowman told Prime Video.

Bowman recalled the situation during the time of the wreck. The 32-year-old claimed that he was just a bystander in the incident, with no real way to escape. Though, Bowman knew that the wreck was going to be a big one which could lead to a major injury.

Yeah, it looks like, I don’t know, the 41 got loose or the 2 got into him or something. Then, yeah, at that point you’re just along for the ride. Couldn’t really do anything except think about, ‘Oh shit, this is about to hurt really bad.’ Yeah, hate that for our team, and it’s been a rough two months. So, just gotta keep digging.

Alex Bowman disappointed over Michigan wreck

The HMS star was left frustrated after losing a potential decent result in Michigan. The No. 48 car looked decent in practice a day before the race. Unfortunately, things started off badly as Bowman fell behind at the start. Moreover, the pitstop strategy also turned out to have a negative impact on his run.

Honestly, we were pretty decent yesterday [in practice], I thought. We fell off too much on the long run, but I was pretty optimistic about today. We completely missed it to start the race, and obviously, you know, we got super loose and just had long pit stops making adjustments, trying to make it better, and never really got a chance to race again after that.

The 32-year-old reckoned that if he had a chance to continue following a wreck, his team could’ve got him back up to speed. However, Alex Bowman will have to leave Michigan disappointed and hope to bounce back stronger in the next race.

Confident that my guys would have got the car better and we could have got back up through there but unforutnately when you get in the back like that, shit gets pretty crazy and stuff like that happens.

The HMS star sits in 13th place in the Cup Series standings. Alex Bowman is yet to win a race this season. Though, he has bagged two top 5 finishes so far. The 32-year-old needs to improve in the coming rounds if he wants to make his way to Victory Lane.
