Alex Bowman is confident going into the ‘special’ Richmond track as the ‘defending race winner’

Alex Bowman had his breakout season with Hendrick Motorsport last year as he secured four Cup Series Race win in his 2021 campaign but his efforts were overshadowed by the championship-winning run by teammate Kyle Larson.
“Bowman the Showman” wasn’t ready to easily giveaway his limelight as he continued his winning momentum to the 2022 season and has already secured a win in Las Vegas alongside a top 5 finish. His efforts till now in the 2022 season earned him a 4th place in the Championship table.
Now Alex Bowman, who will go into the Richmond Raceway, Toyota Owners 400 as the defending champion has said that going into the race as the defending champion gives him more confidence, and the fact that he got his first win last season here makes it more special.
“Going back as the defending race winner always gives you a little boost of confidence. With it being the track where Ally got their first Cup Series win, it makes that place even more special,” Alex Bowman said.

Though is yet to win a single race in 2022 contrary to his 3 Hendrick Motorsport team members, who have already secured a win this season, Chase Elliott leads the championship table thanks to his consistent run throughout the last 6 rounds in Next Gen cars. Now his crew chief Alan Gustafson has come forth suggesting that his driver will be getting stronger as the season progresses.
Alan Gustafson said that he believes they are getting better and better by each week driving the Next-Gen cars which have been a learning curve for all of the team ad added that Chase Elliott has done a great job adapting to it. He went on to say that as the season goes on, they are only going to get stronger.
“Each week I feel like we’re getting a better feel for this (NextGen) car and what it can do. It’s definitely been a bit of a learning curve for all of us, but Chase has done a great job of adapting, and the performance of the car has been there, and we’ve been competitive. As this season goes on, I think we’re only going to get stronger,” Alan Gustafson said.
