The 2024 NASCAR season marked another rise and heartbreak for Hendrick Motorsports veteran Alex Bowman. He came into the season hoping for redemption, after having two disappointing season due to injuries. The No:48 Chevy 2022 season was shortened over a crash and 2023 season was ruined by a back injury.

Alex Bowman recently sat down with RACER and talked about how the two big injuries made him doubt himself, as well as his racing prowess. He admitted that it was really disappointing for him have a terrible 2023 season, following the return from injury and he felt downbeat over his performance in the track, where he usually runs well.

I don’t know if I questioned myself, but I think definitely after two back-to-back bigger injuries, it’s easy to get in that spot. It wasn’t much fun, especially (because) we were so good before I broke my back and came back and we were good for like two weeks and then terrible the rest of the season. It was crazy how bad we were at places that I’m typically really good at.

All these, alongside the struggles from the start of the 2024 season made him frustrated. But they eventually turned things around and had a consistent year, and the team feels happy about getting back on the good side.

So that was really frustrating and this year, we didn’t start the year (well) but we turned it around pretty quickly. I think we’ve done a lot of the right things and I think being on the other side of it definitely feels good.

It certainly was disappointing and (it’s) part of racing, sometimes. That stuff is going to happen, and unfortunately, we let it happen. It was certainly disappointing but I don’t think it deflated our race team. It didn’t really change much of what we were doing; I think we continued to operate at a high level.

The comments from Alex Bowman shows a level of confidence the No:48 team has going into the 2025 season. It would be interesting to see how the upcoming season is going to playout, amidst the pressure on their shoulders to keep his HMS seat.
