Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been away from NASCAR racing for quite some time now. It is safe to say that Dale Jr. was addicted to racing at one point in his career. However, after quitting, it was evident that he needed something else to get his mind off things. Now, despite having a loving family, his wife Amy Earnhardt funnily reveals how Junior is still young at heart and enjoys his ‘current addiction’.

In a recent podcast appearance as a couple, Amy Earnhardt shed light on how Dale Earnhardt Jr. has a gaming addiction. He enjoyed playing College Football on Xbox with a couple of his friends. Though gaming is a relatively fun activity, Junior reached a completely different level of addiction to the virtual world.

Amy Earnhardt revealed how Dale Earnhardt Jr. wanted to game even while going out on a lovely cruise vacation. Dale Jr. carried an Xbox along with him on the cruise, as it was immediately marked up by customs to be investigated manually. Mrs. Earnhardt was certainly not impressed by the entire situation and felt completely awkward and burst out at the 51-year-old because of his antics, even during a lovely family vacation.

While not mincing her words, Amy Earnhardt claimed that being addicted to gaming at such intensity was a sickness and definitely not normal. Mrs. Earnhardt highlighted that if her husband was unable to go on a vacation without bringing his games along, was it even a true vacation? Dale Jr. had a defense ready for himself, but it did not help his case, and his wife’s outburst was definitely not going to be contained by mere explanations and excuses.

It’s a sickness. It’s an addiction and a sickness. It is. If you can’t even go on vacation without taking video games, then are you actually on vacation?

Amy Earnhardt said on the Bless Your ‘Hardt podcast.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. accepts feeling “insulted” because of the shocking interaction

Dale Earnhardt Jr. wasn’t delighted with how he and his love for gaming were frowned upon by not only his wife but also the security staff present on the cruise. The guards questioned if the Xbox was a medical device, which it clearly wasn’t. Now, the 51-year-old accepts feeling insulted because of the entire interaction and how he was unable to game while on the cruise.

Dale Jr. revealed that his Xbox was in the bag, and the security person, who seemed to be around 24 years of age, seemed clueless about what it was. The former NASCAR star pointed out that the guard thought it to be like a defibrillator or something, which was not allowed on the cruise. Junior asserted that he felt insulted because he is just 51 and doesn’t need a medical device to keep himself healthy and hearty.

I had the Xbox in the bag, and the guy’s like, ‘Is this a medical device?’ And I’m like, ‘Come on, man. You’re 24 years old. You know an Xbox when you see one.’ He thought it was a defibrillator or something like that. I was like, insulted cuz I’m like 51. I don’t need a medical device.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. noted.

Further, Amy Earnhardt did not miss the opportunity to make a joke of Dale Jr., claiming that he did look old, especially because of the greying beard. Regardless of age, it was a stark reminder for Junior to enjoy the activities while going outside of his house for a vacation. Mrs. Earnhardt was able to prove her point to the 51-year-old without much argument on the matter. Safe to assume that he isn’t going to take any gaming consoles with him on future trips.
