The Xfinity Series at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday was full of controversy. RCR star Austin Hill allegedly rear-hooked Aric Almirola on purpose as the two were in a close battle. Following the incident, both drivers were furious on one another. Now, Almirola has hit out at his arch-rival’s intentions behind the incident.
In the ending stages of the race, Aric Almirola and Austin Hill were battling each other for track position. The two inevitably made contact, which angered the RCR star. So much so, Hill seemingly rerar-hooked Almirola, ending his race at the Brickyard. Hill received a five-lap penalty by race officials, a first in four years, highlighting the intensity of the incident. Moreover, the No. 21 driver could face more action after a profane rant on the team radio.
Aric Almirola made it clear that Austin Hill ended his race intentionally. The JGR star claimed that his rival tried to block him on numerous occasions. Almirola laid down the entire scenario which led to the incident as he found an opportunity to overtake the No. 21 car. The 41-year-old declared that this wreck was likely one of the biggest in his entire career, making comparisons to the 2017 Kansas weekend when he broke his back.
Oh, it was definitely intentional. He blocked me three times. He had damage on his nose, so he was really slow in the corners…Uh, the leaders are starting to put a gap on us. So, it’s time to go, and I got him loose. Yeah, you just turn left and hook me in the right rears. Honestly, one of the biggest hits in my entire NASCAR career. Very reminiscent of the hit I took when I broke my back.

Aric Almirola mocks Austin Hill for being ‘laughable’
Austin Hill stands firmly in his ground over the incident. The RCR driver is simply unapologetic for having ended Almirola’s race. Even his team owner Richard Childress is supporting his stance, claiming that NASCAR might just want to create trouble for RCR. Though, Aric Almirola finds something laughable about Hill’s personality.

Almirola was not happy with the way Austin Hill has behaved in the past. He recalled an incident in Martinsville recently, when the RCR driver proclaimed his goal of being an inspiration to young fans, particularly over racing etiquette. Aric Almirola fired shots at Hill, finding those comments laughable after the incident in Indianapolis. A clever dig made by the JGR star.
We have great race cars, and I love doing it. It’s just unfortunate that guys like that, especially that guy. He stood up in front of a meeting at Martinsville and said he was going to be a role model for all the young kids to look up to, and racing etiquette, and I think that’s kind of laughable after that one.
Aric Almirola added.
It seems that this new beef between Aric Almirola and Austin Hill will escalate in the coming weeks. Both drivers have lost no love over the situation and will likely continue to make more comments. NASCAR drivers can certainly lose their calm under such situations. However, it is important that the two move past this clash with time.
