Atlanta Motor Speedway: Many questions come to light as the chaotic Cup Series race comes to an end on the newly refurbished track
Atlanta Motor Speedway
Atlanta Motor Speedway is now the talk of the town after undergoing major changes prior to this years’ Series races of all three formats. Drivers were excited and simultaneously terrified too while taking their race machines out onto this new track.
The modifications made to the track have affected the results drastically and also lead to many crashes which fortunately weren’t heavy on the drivers or the NASCAR. The track had been made into a superspeedway much more like the Daytona and the Talladega. The vehicle’s power also had to be changed to keep the drivers safe while involved in a fast-paced pack race.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. stated that although getting disqualified seems to have enjoyed the race despite being in favor of not racing the track, but feels glad that he did because he had a blast out there.
“They got what they were looking for as far as the Daytona-Talladega-type feel. I really personally was still in favor of not touching Atlanta. … I still had a blast out there today and felt like we had a car capable of winning, so can’t be mad about that, either,” Ricky Stenhouse Jr said.
Atlanta Motor Speedway saw Kurt Busch securing P3 on this weeks’ Folds of Honor Quiktrip 500 to which he stated that the track was pretty wild and hard to digest at that moment.
“It’s pretty wild. It’s really hard to digest right now,” Kurt Busch said.
Chase Elliot who secured P6 had only one thing to say that it was crazy for sure and that it felt like a Daytona or a Talladega.
“It was crazy for sure. Hopefully, it was fun to watch because I felt like it was wild from my seat. It was very much so like a Daytona or Talladega. Just trying to position yourself there at the right spot and hope it goes your way,” said Chase Elliot.
Corey LaJoie stole P5 during the race and felt like the team got what they wanted making it more like a superspeedway.
“We did exactly what we set out to do today; we made Atlanta Motor Speedway like a superspeedway,” said Corey LaJoie.
Joey Logano felt like it was a regular superspeedway and that people kept crashing and he was fortunate enough to place 9th.
“It’s a regular superspeedway. We just keep crashing. What did you expect? It’s the same stuff. I guess it’s OK, I don’t know. We survived (to finish ninth), but a lot of cars crashed today for sure. Just like we would expect. … It’s a different type of racing,” said Joey Logano.
Denny Hamlin had a different take on the track as he stated that this is what the officials were going for and they succeeded at it, he also added that the racing was too close and there were many crashes and he ended up getting a DNF next to his name.
“This is what they were shooting for, so if you ask [track officials], it’s a success. I think the racing was obviously close. It’s exciting. There are crashes. So there’s something for everyone.” said Denny Hamlin.
The drivers have had mixed reactions when it came to the new Atlanta Motor Superspeedway.
