The NASCAR Cup series race at Sonoma featured multiple dramatic moments throughout the race, including multi-car pile-ups and wrecks. Last week’s Gateway Enjoy Illinois 350 winner Austin Cindric was one of the drivers that was involved in multiple incidents at the track, that included a hard wreck into the wall.
On lap 40 of the 110-lap race, the No:2 Team Penske Racing Ford Mustang driver found himself in the wall alongside Stewart Haas Racing’s Noah Gragson and Front Row Motorsports’ Michael McDowell. The trio spun and crashed hard onto the wall and the safety wall had damages, which the track crew had to fix before the race re-started.

It wasn’t the first incident the Austin Cindric has had in the race, as just few laps before he spun and almost tumbled over after getting into the mud at the track. He recovered from the incident only to get caught in another, which ironically represent how the 2024 season has been for him before getting the win last week.
McDowell who was the first one to get out of the gravel after the clash and he went onto recover from the incident easily and finish P2 in the race behind winner Kyle Larson. Cindric’s who started the race at P15 ended up at P22 while Gragson who started the race at P11 was able to secure just a P26 finish.

The Penske driver came into the race with the hopes of converting the impressive momentum he had from the win last week but failed miserably in doing the same. Though it’s a disappointing result, he can console himself as he still the only Penske driver with a playoff berth.
But he has to clean up his racing, as alongside the mistakes from his team, his mistakes on the track has also played massive role in their drop in performance. It would be interesting to see how the No:2 Ford team will bounce back from the latest setback.
